    Not valid? Please.

Clearly your arguments are not valid. Or as we say in the business, "invalid." Some even say, "absolutely invalid."

I went and did some research and found nothing suggesting that seperating a child from siblings at birth in any way harms him/her. Everything I did find was specifically related to children seperated from siblings after developing relationships with them.

Wow...that was a tough 8 minutes minus the time it took to post these two messages of research time for you, I'm sure. Impressive.

My argument is that nobody has shown what principle of ethics has been violated by this study. Your answer was that you just feel that it's wrong, which obviously does not prove any violation of ethics. What about my argument was invalid?

This isn't today's standard, didn't this occur 35 years ago or more?

As opposed to your 0 minutes of research. Besides, I wasn't the one claiming that I had studied the issue. Bnb was, and he unfortunately wasn't kind enough to provide a link from his extensive records.

If you have nothing to contribute, why post?

    Yes.

So if you're posting from the 70's your points are pretty groovy.

We've learned a thing or two since then.

Does it make it more ethical to you because it happened 35 years ago?

Can you direct me to the standards of ethics you're referring to so that I might search them carefully to meet your "valid" criteria? Thanks in advance.

Wow. Calling out one of the most well respected posters on here and saying he has nothing to contribute. Smart move.

Do I need to point out, once again, that nobody has made any VALID argument as to why it is unethical?

I thought showing that you put in less than 8 minutes of research time to support your conclusion was contributing.

Well the subject of the thread is something that happened in the 1970's, and the expressions of outrage and the gnashing of teeth and the rending of garments and the comparisons to nazi germany tend to concern that same occurrence from the 1970's. Nobody is apparently doing it now.

Except for the fact that those cited in these articles keep pointing out how this would never be done today?? And how separating syblings like this is illegal in most states??? You mean other than those ways??

And I'm suggesting that's a very good thing.

Are you suggesting it's not a good thing? That perhaps we should continue to do that sort of research??

It certainly presents problems for your newly minted 'it was ilegal!" argument, if what is in this thread is true.

But yeah it is pretty obvious that time does make things more and less ethical depending on the avialbablity of information

Would it be ethical in 2007 for a doctor to advice a pregnant woman to smoke? probably not.

Would ie be ethical in 1972 for it to happen? Maybe, maybe not. Either way times and circumstances change.

A pretty obvious point that i think you would appreciate.

Feel free to advance your own criteria. However, saying that you simply feel that it is wrong is not good enough.

Why should I continue to look for research that doesn't seem to exist? If you know something the rest of us don't, POST IT! Stop trying to blame me for others' lack of evidence. I am not the one claiming ethics violations. All I am doing is asking for support for those claims. Nobody, including yourself, has provided anything resembling a valid argument that the study in question constitutes an violation of any principle of ethics.

Now stop dodging the issue and back up your position.

I don't really care one way or the other, I'm sure there are considerations on both sides. I can envision situations in which a credible intuitive argument can be made either way. I don't find it immediately and absolutely per se unreasonable and nazi-esque to separate twin siblings.

Are you trying to come across as a complete tool? You know there are ways to discuss an issue without becoming an arrogant blowhard.

You are getting closer, but you're not quite there. The next step would be to determine WHY this study wouldn't be done today or WHY twin seperation is illegal today and present your findings to the rest of us. You could also come up with your own reason why you think the study is unethical. Either way is fine, but you have to make the argument before we can discuss it. At this point, you have not made the argument.
