It was actually a pretty cool place to see a concert. I saw the Cure (Head On The Wall Tour), Depeche Mode and Thompson Twins to name a few. During the Cure concert they through the "head" into the audience. The next day me and a bunch of friends went to Jamaica beach and there was the head on top of some guys car. It seemed like one big party back then. Good memories. I think if you had a season pass you could get into the concerts for 5 bucks (in the 80's).
This x1,000! I felt up so many middle school girls there (full disclosure: I was in middle school at the time).
My first "real" concert was DC Talk at the Southern Star during one of Astroworld's patented Youth Group Days. A couple of years later I saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, who played to a pretty tiny crowd. I hated both of those bands, but it was a great venue. Lots of great Astroworld memories. I will never forgive Six Flags for trying to stave off bankruptcy by demolishing the place.
I saw Simple Minds and Ted Nugent (actually I was working as security/an usher). I understand REM played their as well.
I'd love to imagine some of these people going to Astroworld right after the gig. Seeing Angus Young screaming his ass off on the Sky Screamer or something makes me happy
