This is a constant refrain in your posts regardless of topic. These are just a few of the notable folks who disagree with you... "Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone." "Light and liberty go together." --Thomas Jefferson "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives. " --James Madison "Democracy extends the sphere of individual freedom, socialism restricts it. Democracy attaches all possible value to each man; socialism makes each man a mere agent, a mere number. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude." -- Alexis de Tocqueville
Guys, don't give these idiots the satisfaction of responding to this stupidity. Just let them talk to empty space, I've found its the best way to get them to lose interest and go bother somebody else.
No, I haven't. Rumsfeld is saying those acts are "unAmerican" to try to deflect the heat. I'm just so sick of this being hyped as something barely short of what the Nazis did to the Jews. How many of these folks died? Let me answer that.....none. What is so bad about some humiliation? If it gets information out of these militants and saves American lives, good. The stupidity came in taking pictures of it. It's war, folks. It's not a video game or a movie where the good guys waste the bad guys at the end of two hours to cool theme music. It would be nice for us to give these prisoners full Constitutional rights, but when their fellow whacknuts are dropping mortar rounds on you and blowing up cars and you want to find out who is behind....well, you have to do whatever you can. I have no problem with torturing folks if it saves the lives of American troops.
Comparing this with Nazi concentration camps is r****ded. Not even close. Way off in left field, bud. Perhaps the next prisoner uprising should be met with a firing squad. Social security number, maybe?
Once again, bamaslammer demonstrates that he has little to no knowledge of the factual background regarding the subjects on which he opines at length. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/05/60II/main615781.shtml par for the course, keep up the good work; you've got some strong competition from a few others in this thread as to who can make the dumbest posts, but your willingness to blow your own foot away time and time again gives you a real edge, cowboy.
Go to hell, Sam. Your arrogance is getting older than your tired leftist rhetoric. It's war. In war, you kill the enemy, you pompous moron. If they died in the midst of interrogation, so be it.
bamaslammer, is that what they taught you in the military? I am pretty sure it is not. So did you not pay attention?
I'm pretty sure they taught bamaslammer, (as with all Marines) how to kill... In War, you must have, need trained combatants honed to absolutely kill...We have these soldiers' doing the best they can with thuggish criminals, and terroristic militia-type individuals, hell bent on killing our troops and committed to stopping the goal of progression in Iraq...When the directive isn't clear, and the commanding officer's aren't in touch with Pentagon wishes, the blame is not with them, but likely with a General, or (behind the desk type) high ranking commander, who will get off much easier in regards to final action... 99.98974% of the troops there are disassociated with this...War will ALWAYS be an imperfect art form, which none of the West point Generals can perfect, but I absolutely believe in our United States soldiers, especially now...What do we do now?...Instead of crying about it...Turn the page...Have an investigation...Hold commanding officers' accountable...Make necessary corrections,...,but let's not allow this to burden the overall strategic movement necessary for the finalizing phase of the transitional process in Iraq...
Ahhh yes the old "naked pyramid" has broken even the most tight lipped prisoner during interrogation.
I agree with you here, ROXRAN. The difference between us and some of the truly insane cranks around here is that they think these American war criminals did the right thing. You won't find more than five in a hundred Americans who agree with them (at most), thank goodness. Some of these guys -- who not only excuse and defend what these sadistic criminals did, but suggest that those who disagree (95% of America at least) are wrong or somehow soft on terror -- need some strong medication and some really serious attention from mental health care professionals. At least one of them sounds like a candidate for lockup, voluntary or not. I'm not inclined to argue back and forth with the mentally disturbed, but I sincerely hope these guys get the help they need.
Looks like Pledges trying to join a frat. These pictures are bad, but frankly, I expected worse based upon all the rhetoric going around. I mean they didn't look tortured, and from what I hear they were being broken down to make them talk. Sure, they are in comprimising positions, and it is questionable the methods they used, but I expected far worse based upon the news outlets. DD
There is worse. They have photos and video of American GI's raping a female Iraqi POW, and pictures of them beating a man almost to death. There is also pictures of Americans standing by while IRaqi's helping us out are raping young boys.
DD: I don't think you've read the reports and you definitely haven't seen the worst of the photos since they haven't been released. What we know for certain is that electric shocks were sent to some of their penises, that an old woman was ridden around like a donkey, that some were forced to masturbate, that at least one got a chemical light (and maybe a broomstick) up the ass and that several were posed (or more) in homosexual positions. What we also know for certain, from the photos themselves, is that the soldiers enjoyed torturing the prisoners. What we know for certain qualifies the soldiers involved and any superiors who condoned any of it as war criminals. What we've heard may be coming next includes a few people killed and at least one woman and possibly an underage boy being raped. I don't know what kind of freaky sado-homosexual frat you belonged to in college, but I don't think it's even possible to overestimate the torture these American soldiers visited on the prisoners -- some of whom, according to the report, were likely innocent civilians.
Bamma, Good to see you weren't banned. Anyway, I thought you were against moral quivalency. So from a moral absolute standpoint. Is torture right or is it wrong? Let's cut the moral equivocating and take a stand on it. It's also funny how you claim that Rumsfeld was just saying it was unAmerican to deflect the heat. Are you his doctor, or lawyer? When did Rumsfeld tell you that? Or is it when you are shown to hold unAmerican views according to our Sec. of Defense you rationalizing by not believing what he said. You come here and try and say that nobody died from this, but then Sam shows you that in fact prisoners were murdered and did die, and you resort to calling more names. Your arguments have fallen apart, and your level of venom directed at other posters here, has me a little concerned. I hope that you aren't falling apart yourself.
