I don't think the two are necessarily related. Toro would've been rule 5 eligible this winter so they had to move him to the 40 at some point over the next several months. And if they are going to be without Correa for an extended time, I would guess that'll (finally) trigger the Kyle Tucker call-up. My guess is this move gives them more flexibility to get Bregman and Altuve some rest over the next 10 days.
@Snake Diggit @tellitlikeitis and our other minor league followers...what are you thoughts on Toro? I looked at his baseball reference page and it looks fairly impressive. Kid can hit. Anything that you guys can tell us that we can find from a google search?
Posted this in other thread, but think Toro deserves his own thread. There is a very good chance he's at least a backup MLB player. Plays the IF except SS which would usually make it tough for a guy to be a backup IF. Astros, oddly, have a backup OF that plays SS in case Toro can't win a starter spot in a year or 2.
He's also still young... about 6 months older than Yordan and basically the same age as Tucker. He's 2.5 years younger than Josh Rojas, who was a major piece in the Greinke deal.
Pretty raw for a 22 year old. Switch hitter. Defense is a work in progress but his tools are very good; strong arm, acceptable glove and range. Should be good for 20+ HR power and a double digit walk rate, and strikeouts shouldn’t be a problem. May take a full season, but I would project him to be an average everyday 3B, with ceiling for more and floor of a bench player. Comps would include Justin Turner (ceiling), Travis Shaw (realistic), and Jeimer Candelario (probable).
Luhnow said on the radio yesterday that Tucker will not be called up until rosters expand. I'd guess he's being brought up to play 3B and move Bregman to SS.
Don't know how rosters work. But this guy being called up means someone has to leave the 40 man rigtht? That is either cut or 60 day IL. Really hoping CC is not headed to the 60 day. He would be done for the year playoffs and all correct?
Yes, there will have to be a 40 man move. If Correa is put on the 60 Day DL it very likely means his season is over.
Also, posted this article in the Minor League thread before I saw this one, in case anyone's interested (but click on it though...more traffic on their site equals more RR coverage): http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php...r-league-thread.294308/page-130#post-12577486
Mayfield just isn't an MLB player, he screams AAAA. I think this was simply a matter of him being the most MLB ready infielder we have after Mayfield.
With these moves are will still over by one on the 40 man? With Pressley getting scoped could he be the one that ends up on the 60?
