In other news, VZW is offering most of their smart phones, including the Droid, Buy One Get One Free.

I have had the phone since 1 week after its release. Since then, I have had to switch my phone THREE times. I am currently on my 4th droid, and actually wish I can somehow get out of my contract and switch to AT&T. I loved the Droid at first but it really gets annoying with all the problems I have had, and I can truthfully say I wish I had the iPhone. I think the one thing I really like that the Droid has that the iPhone doesnt is the Querty keyboard bc at times I get tired of typing with touch screen. A couple of problems my phone's screen has blacked out which was one reason why I had to take it back, all my icons on home page and everything clear, and you have to take the battery in and out a couple times to get it back, phone freezing, and hitting a button like messaging opens up and the browser opens and there is no way to get back to my texts unless someone texts me.

Next time my phone has any problem I am taking it back to Verizon, and hoping there is someway that I can get out of the contract (without paying any charge) bc all the problems I have had since I have gotten the Droid (which is when I signed a new 2 yr agreement). If anyone has any tips, let me know. I know its going to be hard and might not be possible, but I will try.

I'm on an HTC Hero and I use Cherry Rplayer for the CBS stations like Sportsradio 610. It breaks the stations down by city so there is no need to do a search. Should work on any Android phone I think...

Get a Pre. It does everything a Droid can do ...but better. My brother and I compared the "multitasking" and a Droid can't open multiple browswers. My Pre can open as many as I want until I run out of memory and they all work simultaneously (not pauses it until you return). Pre also has an easier GUI. Last I counted, the Pre was over 1000 apps now.

Droid definately has the marketing edge ...but IMO the Pre is a better phone.

The WebOS is awesome from what I have seen in videos but I have never actually used one. Palm needs to shape up and release a touch-screen only phone with WebOS and awesome specs.

The Droid can open multiple browser windows, and they'll load in the background while you have another window open. Don't knock the Droid if you don't know how to use it.

In fact, I think all Android 2.0 phones can do this. (Maybe lower versions can too, but I'm not sure.)

Hmmm. We tested something that I could do that he couldn't. I thought that was it. Maybe that I could browse and do other things? Or maybe he just didn't know how to do it?

...which brings up another another point. WebOS seems to be simplier to use.

Not on life support yet ...but I'd say they'll be checked into the ICU very soon.

yup, I was able to do the same on my G1 with Android 1.0-1.6

I'm being bias cause I tried/used the Android OS first and just LOVE Google. I didn't think much of Palm's WebOS because, well I hated the original Palm OS, but after being trained on the Palm Pre/Pixis earlier this year, its not bad at all, but still prefer Android :)

btw, as far as switching to other programs, hold the home screen button and it shows the past 6 programs that you opened which you can open directly and switch back and forth, kinda like "Alt+Tab" on your keyboard in in Windows

Has anyone tried the skype mobile on the droid yet?? there is an apps where you can link all your social networking into one call Nimbuzz or something.. The skype mobile doesn't require wifi but what is the freaking point if you can't take the Sonofabitch out of the country to use it??

Skyfire for Android streams Flash video

Native Flash support for Android phones may be only a month away, but in the meantime, mobile browser-maker Skyfire presents a workaround in its brand-new beta app for Android phones.

Skyfire 2.0 beta for Android looks and acts like your typical souped-up WebKit browser for Android phones, with the exception of a tool that lets you stream Flash video--and soon Silverlight. WebKit doesn't currently support either technology.

When Skyfire detects a broken embedded video on a Web page, it signals Skyfire's servers to fetch the video and transcode it from its original format to HTML 5 video.

What's more, Skyfire's servers will adjust the video resolution to performance factors like your phone's screen size and your network speed in order to provide smoother streaming. Videos certainly played without lagging or buffering interruptions in our demo with Skyfire on the Motorola Droid, and in our own tests on the Nexus One.

Skyfire's Flash-support-by-proxy isn't an all-in-one solution by any means. It doesn't detect every video in a playlist. Occasionally, it crashed a browser tab. And it doesn't address Flash games or other interactive sites; we're still waiting for a seamless way to read Flash-based menus online.

In addition to video streaming, Skyfire also adds its twist to the Android's WebKit browser with a button for viewing more relevant content, like headlines, images, and Twitter updates, and a link-sharing module. There's a browser tab-switcher, a shortcut to easily switch between desktop, Android, and iPhone mode (known as user agents,) and a drop-down menu with access to the settings, download list, text selection, and other tools. The quintessential "back" arrow and bookmarking are also present. On Android phones running OS 2.0 or higher, Skyfire also supports multitouch pinch-zooming.
