So you would say that embryos conceived on the US should have citizenship and be counted in the census congressional aportionment?
The 3/5 compromise comes directly from the Constitution. So you are now saying that Constitutional rights shouldn't be granted to fetuses? In otherwords they shouldn't be treated as people.
Citizenship is based on place of birth. It is the same for EVERY fetus I see what you are trying to do but it won't work. Citizen ship is based on birth I think Fetuses should have the basic right to live. The right to not be shredded nad killed Basic Human Rights Rocket River
The 3/5ths Compromise was one that prevented citizenship, as was the Exclusion and other acts. Those were overturned based on human rights but what you are saying is that the unborn aren't entitled to the same human rights as the born. We have laws preventing the killing of endangered animals yet we don't grant them human rights. You are acknowledging that fetus' don't have the same human rights but giving them your own spin on the 3/5ths compromise, (4/5ths?) because you still won't give them the same rights as the born. The reason I'm pointing this out is that you can certainly argue that fetuses shouldn't be killed but by bringing up the argument regarding the 3/5ths compromise you are going far beyond that to an argument regarding the granting personhood and all it means under the Constitution. You yourself compared the plight of fetuses to the treatment of Native Americans and Blacks in this country if so then how far are you willing to take that argument?
hhmmm Wikipedia does not seem to agree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-fifths_compromise The point is dehumanizing the 1st step toward violation. PERIOD. Rocket River
And you will note I wikipedia completely agrees with me since I wrote: The practical result of the 3/5ths compromise was to deny citizenship otherwise there would be no need for the 14th Ammendment. I agree with you though that such a compromise is dehumanizing the question I placed to you though is are you willing then to to go all the way towards humanizing fetuses by granting them things such as citizenship rights?
