Hmm, I must be blind... I don't see a exclamation point ANYWHERE in that list. Also, "little old man's disease" is an actual medical term. Also, they are looking for certain types of families because they have advertisers and companies that would like to help in those certain areas, and I am sure they want to use any and all help that is offered.

It's a casting call email, they look like that. It's trying to generate the excitement to find the right people to help. It's all part of production.

I wonder what the email looks like for their new show "Miracle Workers". Now that's a concept that I find disgusting. "Hey Everyone! We're looking for someone we can kill on air, maybe!"

EDIT: They were working on the house MB had photos of the week of my Birthday. I got great tix to the Rockets vs. Mavs that week and sat just to the right of the whole design team. Les opened up his seats and let them sit courtside when people realized who they were.

    I totaly agree with that..

When all is said and done

    1. Needy people get help

    2. The needy people aren’t paraded around like a circus freak for TV ratings

What’s not to like about this show??

I don’t know what “The Smoking Gun” is, but they need to STFU IMO!!

What kind of deal do these families get to avoid paying the outrageous property taxes that the rest of us would have to pay on these new, big homes?

The building companies take care of their mortgages. They're given information ahead of time about property taxes and what they can expect if they're chosen. Many times they're given a lump sum of money by groups involved in their project to help with maintenance and taxes, as well.

Most of them get all expenses paid because of the overwhelming donations that come in. Honestly, I caught the last 10 minutes or so of the Sunday night show and it looked like there were about 10,000 people outside when the family came home, and I'm sure a good number of them donated time, money or goods to the family... not to mention the corporate donations.

The bottom line is ABC is in the entertainment business. They just are. They've found something here that allows for people's lives to be made better...for them to give something...and still be able to support it in a time slot that could be occupied by a traditional show. Any ministry has to be able to support itself. In this industry, it takes storylines. But ask the people they helped this last week if they give a damn about all that. Ask the man the week before, a Jamaican immigrant with little kids who is on his last legs with his bout with cancer...ask that guy if he cares whether or not ABC makes money off selling air time during that show. That air time supports them being able to do what they do.

Like mentioned above, someone typically picks up taxes for x number of years and usually utility companies donate several years worth of gas, electric, phone, internet, etc. etc. etc. Others donate other services such as groceries, car maintenence (usually along with a new car), and many other things. I remember for the family here in Houston, someone donated 10 years worth of free haircuts.

Every penny that was donated went directly to the family to help with medical bills and it ended up being tens of thousands of dollars. Even then it didn't cover everything.

"But the hunt for a young victim--who will likely die before 30--will not be easy."

This is just bizarre and that's all there is to it. But who cares, let's go to Disneyland!

You are quoting the Smoking Gun's commentary, not the email.

This is the one thing I like in Reality Tv
    non fictionalized helping people

this isn't Tool Time. . it is real
    and these are real people

I think we need to have more shows like this
IMAGINE . . people getting paid to HELP PEOPLE!
and then the more they get paid. . the more people they help
    WHAT A CRIME!

I would rather these be a lil dirty in pulling on my heartstrings a little
    than
simply pocketing the money like. . i dunno. . real world. . .road rules. . .and that other bullsh*t out there

Why must things that DO GOOD . . must be PERFECT at all aspect
    but
we accept any old trash from trashy shows?

Why tear this show down . . but stay silent on American Idol
[HEY LET ME DESTROY SOMEONE'S HOPE AND DREAMS AND MAKE THEM CRY FOR RATINGS!!!! WWWWOOOOOOOO EEEEEEe]
Real World [WWWWOOOOO EEEEE TEENAGE SEX WITH SPY CAMERA!!!]

    Rocket River
there are FAR MORE WORSE shows than this one

they're looking for people who need help. they're also looking for storylines, because it's a TV show and it has to carry ratings to encourage advertisers to spend money there. there are REAL PEOPLE behind those storylines who get REAL HELP.

the email wouldn't be so bizarre if it hadn't listed specific hardships.

    Yeah.

I think it should be like American Idol, where they get people with different diseases and America votes on who gets the prize.
