No matter who you're biased to, it's foolish to judge a team by their performance in the second half of a game already in command. Iowa had 35 at the half, Texas 31. Virtually identical. After that, it's just a matter of coaches' philosophy... keep playing aggressive to stay sharp, or get some younger guys experience and play conservative. There's no logical explanation to judge a team in that scenario.
Bad Purdue team? Cat, looking at their record they aren't very good but they are a tough team to beat. They are 4-6 now but look at their losses: Lose by 7 at Notre Dame Lose by 3 to Wake Forest Lose by 3 at Iowa Lose by 7 at Illinois Lose by 2 to Michigan Lose by 4 to Ohio State. Even a great team would be thrilled to only have one of those losses. Granted Purdue should have beat Illinois and Wake Forest but losing to Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa, and Ohio State does not make one a bad team, especially when those four losses are by a combined 16 points...
I think the logical explanation is how AP or coaches vote. From what I understand, voters don't analyze every game, including halftime scores. I think they look at the game's final score, and take into account the quality of opponent. What I'm saying is I'm a voter at the Sacramento Bee or wherever, I see Iowa puts up 62 against a bad Northwestern team and UT puts up 41 against a horrible Baylor team. After this weekend I don't think anyone would disagree that Iowa is better than Ohio St. Ohio St. is ranked #3, why don't we put Iowa right behind them at #4. This isn't what I want to happen, but I could definitely see it happening. We're only ahead of Iowa by 63 pts. in the AP. I guess I'm more frustrated with Mack not going in for the kill in putting up 60 or 70 pts. on a ****ty Baylor team. I'm not a big fan of Spurrier, but when it's Texas who's putting up 60 or 70 its different. I want to be able to bet on Texas(-40) without thinking twice about it. Which of the 2 above 2nd half philosophies did Mack use today? Based on the score we didn't keep playing agressive, thats why I asked how much time Mock got? The whole 2nd half? What about Selvin? Like I said I didn't see the game up here this week, so thanks for the info. Hopefully Miami goes down today, and OSU to Michigan, I want OU in the Fiesta.
Dylan, Purdue is a decent team, so I agree with you there. But after watching OSU vs Wisconsin with Clarett, seeing their pathetic schedule and seeing them skate by a decent purdue team at purdue(comparable to maybe Tech in the big 12) they do not belong in a NC race, they belong in the Rose Bowl, if that. I think Iowa would beat them.
Oh. My. God. Did anyone see the end of the LSU-Kentucky game? That was singlehandedly the most unreal ending I've ever seen in my entire life. 75 yard hail mary, only went about 50 yards... tipped by about 5 defenders and a one handed catch by LSU to run it in. Unbelievable.
I should've listened to everyone who said Tennessee sucks... this is unreal. I've never seen a team with this lack of intensity.
disconcerting signals? wtf?? KSU is getting every single penalty called against them at home! even penalties i've never heard of until today! here comes ISU roaring back... screw the halo rule.. that was a clean hit!
Aren't we a tad sensitive today, duke ? And I reserve every right to use OU sucks whenever I want, it's a privilege of being at the University of Texas at Austin. Yeah, you have scoreboard, but I wanted another crack at you guys, because I know we gave you this Red River game. Too Bad, as I said earlier, a Nate Hybl led team, would not go undefeated, and thus we will not play. Thanks for moving us up to number 3 though
Yeah, you have scoreboard, but I wanted another crack at you guys, because I know we gave you this Red River game. What about the other 2 years before that? Too Bad, as I said earlier, a Nate Hybl led team, would not go undefeated, and thus we will not play. So it's his fault he played the best game I've seen him play, and that the defense flat out sucked today? Thanks for moving us up to number 3 though Oh, your welcome. How come Texas always needs something to happen to OU for them to do anything good?
I'm not getting in an Aggie-Sooner game recap discussion, but come on, you are taking this way too hard. OU Sucks is one of our proudest school chants, when we beat you or you lose, you will hear it, get use to it. And yes, Nate Hybl is a joke of a CFB qb, I said all along you weren't running the table with him at the helm, and after watching him against a real defense(the aggies without Ty Warren who injured himself in this game, don't count) in Dallas, it's pretty obvious he was the weakest link. And don't you dare tell me you wouldn't be as happy as Texas fans are today, if we beat you, you had 1 loss and we got upset by a mediocre opponent, and vaulted you into sniffing distance of the NC game. It really doesn't matter how you get there, just if you get there. You guys still have a great team and a fabulous coach, but I should be happy that UT is 1 loss by Miami or OSU from the NC if we do our part, and as a Longhorn it gives me great pleasure to watch the Sooners fall on their faces in anything, sorry, even to the Aggies(this tells you how far this rivalry has fallen).
OU Sucks is one of our proudest school chants, when we beat you or you lose, you will hear it, get use to it. I have no problem with "OU Sucks", where did I say that i did? All I said was that the time at the top of your post and the time you posted were different.... And don't you dare tell me you wouldn't be as happy as Texas fans are today, if we beat you, you had 1 loss and we got upset by a mediocre opponent, and vaulted you into sniffing distance of the NC game. I would be happy, no doubt......I just think putting a team that lost to a team(who most thought was definitely the #1 team in the country yesterday) ahead of said team is wrong, just because of one game....... And yes, Nate Hybl is a joke of a CFB qb, I said all along you weren't running the table with him at the helm, and after watching him against a real defense(the aggies without Ty Warren who injured himself in this game, don't count) in Dallas, it's pretty obvious he was the weakest link. It's OK, he still has a better winning % than your savior down there in Austin. Show me ONE thing that made him the weakest link today.....Has he had very bad games? Yes. Did he win those games? Yes, all but 1(OSU). He played a very good game today, and it's just wrong to blame the loss on him.
