that's what i gathered. and i'm not real concerned with beating someone in an argument over God at this point of my life. we might wanna focus on something else if you want to convince people that God is real to you.
You know what's funny is that God didn't even make that banana, humans did. It took like 6000 years of cultivation and domestication to change a hard seed having nerf football looking fruit into that type of banana. This guy is going to get "tow up from the flow up." My favorite part is Kirk Cameron's sh*t eating grin during the whole thing. I believe in God, but I will not forgive some moron claiming he is proving it scientifically with some weak ass crap like that. It's an insult to God and science. So I hope the guys going up against these two know what they'll likely claim and can be ready with facts to disprove them. The creationists worst nightmare; God's banana:
Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds.
Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds. I bet God could down that bad boy in one bite. Any takers?
God's been on the South Beach diet for a couple of months now. He had let Himself go over the holidays...
I use to be an Atheist but i got better *grin* Actually I look back and Cannot think Why I was because logically . .it does not make sense to me I think I was closer to an Agnostic because I just don't beleive that the Earth came together out of pure luck Mainly it is like saying .. .wait long enough .. and a VW Beetle come together without anyone doing anything. . the parts will just fall into place out of pure luck I'm sure someone can find the odds of that happening and they would be pretty close to the odds of a world supporting life just . .. coming together but that is just my take on it Rocket River
I'm going to try to catch the Nightline broadcast of the debate but forget ABC news if these guys really wanted a debate that would reach the important people, Rockets Fans, they should come here to CF.net and debate. I really wish people would stop bringing up Evolution as being in opposition to the existence of God. Evolution neither proves nor disproves God! Ummm.... blaspheming Buddha? You might've missed the Taliban blowing up the giant Buddha statues in Bamiyan, the Cultural Revolution when Buddhist temples were destroyed and monks forced to rape nuns. Blaspheming Mohammed? What about those Danish cartoons, Pat Robertson calling Mohammed a terrorist and Islam evil. Heck if Islam and Mohammed these days is probably blasphemed way more than Christianity. Ghandi? Well he's religious but not a religious figure so you can't really blaspheme him. Yep there's no bitterness or hate towards other religions just Christianity.
Making either beetles is a process that took time. Neither spontaneously came out of thin air. Chance had a part of the process, but chance was not the only factor in the current result.
Actually there is no chance. Everything happens for countless reasons. We just are unable to recognize them all.
I believe that there are proponents on both sides of science and religion who see science and learning as a destroyer of faith. I think the repetition of this argument is a proxy for that belief. In the history of the church, St. Francis of Assisi and Thomas Aquinas were both concerned with this question and arrived at different conclusions. (If you read The Little Flowers, St. Francis calls down what I can only describe as a laser beam from God to explode some guy when he became too concerned with knowledge!) In one sense, I certainly think it was easier to convince the people of the middle ages to believe in God. Of course it was also easier to convince them of pixies and sprites and succubi and such. But essentially the point is that there are people who are convinced that rational thought is the enemy of faith, and so will continue to repeat such things.
I've read some Aquinas but not St. Francis but I agree there has been a lot of tension between science and religion. The problem that I have with that conflict though is that it need not be a conflict.
Ray Comfort is a joke. I would say he has been discredited but his arguments are so stupid that most educated people dismiss them as a joke and don't take the time to address them. I don't see any credible atheists agreeing to debate him and Mike Seaver. Then again, that is probably the plan. Take a couple of high school drop outs that claim god doesn't exist because they can't get a job and still live at home and put them against Ray and Mike.
Nevermind, Ray and Mike are going against the creators of the "Blasphemy Challenge." Mike and Ray are going to get abused. That is, if people are actually interested in facts these days.
Ray Comfort already debated at the National Atheist Convention in 2005. Even the atheists gave him good marks for the debate. I did see that one and it was very good, well presented on both sides. In fact he got some interesting responses from the atheists, some light jeering, but some sobering thoughtfulness also. It wasn't as cheesy at all as I thought it might be. The guy he debated was a very good debater and very intelligent. Comfort did really well also. It was enlightening.
