You can blame the lack of the running game directly on the coaches IMO. WE DO NOT HAVE VINCE YOUNG ANYMORE...STOP TRYING TO RUN OUT OF THE SHOTGUN!!
John Chiles better start against OU I think it is now obvious that Colt Mccoy will not bring us a championship. Yea he has a really cool name, and he was really good for a few games last season. I know its not his fault he got injured. And I think he is a really nice guy. He puts up gawdy numbers against the Rice and Baylors of the world, but against decent to good competition he just doesn't have enough. 4 interceptions against kstate is simply unacceptable. John Chiles is the true successor of Vince Young. He will fit into the greg davis scheme perfectly. We need to put him in now so that he will get the necessary experience to make a real run at the title over the next couple years. The knock on him is that he doesnt have as good of arm as Colt. Dude, the kid has only played QB for 2 years. He has infinite potential. How hard can it be anyways to beat 4 int man. John Chiles will be the one to take the throne and bring the title back to Texas. Starting colt is just wasting everybodys time.
easy on the knee-jerk reaction. he is still a solid quarterback, makes the right throws, and reads the right patterns. he's mobile, he saved the horns on several plays by tucking the ball and running tough. john chiles still can't pass effectively enough to make him a real quarterback. at this point, mccoy is still the best answer for the team. you want someone to blame? look at the miserable performance by the offensive line. they aren't opening holes for the running game, and they aren't giving mccoy time in the pocket to throw. line play is the real reason, aside from poor playcalling.
I think if Sharred Harris had not gotten injured, we would have seen Colt hit the bench a few games back. But agree on the crappy line play too
I agree colt is a decent D1 qb. However, we are talking about the University of Texas here. The goal of UT is not to be an average D1 program, it is not to be a big12 champion, it is to contend for national championships. We have to swing for the fences. Colt Mccoy has been given many opportunities, but has not shown the ability to compete on that level. John Chiles has a good enough arm to be a serviceable throwing qb, especially with the quality that texas has at receiver. He might not be able to throw the precision deep ball as good colt, but he definitly is good enough to hit his receivers on most standard routes
It sounds like you think McCoy is Chance Mock, and McCoy, sir, is no Mock. Then again Chiles is no Vince. While Chiles is fun to watch, you can't believe that he is better equipped at this point to start. Look how young the whole team is overall. The last thing they need is another freshman not carrying his weight. I wonder if there is such a thing as the sophmore slump now. I'm glad I missed the game taking the my old lady (21) to seaworld. Freaking otters man.
Major Applewaite or Phil Simm's Son Chris Simms or VY UTexas just doesn't feel right without a QB Controversy Rocket River
Tonight showed....just how OVER RATED UT is. Mack needs to learn that he NO LONGER has Vince. Him and Coach Fran can't seem to realize they no longer have the athletic qb's they once possessed. (not that McNeal was all that good....) Nice upset though, I love upsets. I didn't expect UT to lose this game, let alone get DESTROYED!!! This is the begining of things to come for this team, kind of like the aggies. Enough with the cream puff wins....it's game time. The only real win UT had so far was the TCU game, TAMU has yet to have a big win. Next week is going to be UGLY.
Through the first 9 or so games last year, Colt was on pace for and set various national freshman passing records and some UT records. He's more than shown the ability to compete at this level. That said, he's been a wreck this season. The Greg Davis offense is a nightmare. I especially enjoyed the 3 yard pass on 3rd and 10 (followed by a punt with 10 minutes to go down 20) and the 2 yard pass on 4th and 10.
You need to stop smoking weed at Hippie Hollow. The Longhorns have competed for a national championship exactly ONCE in recent memory. You are talking as though UT was USC. You say that it is not enough to be the Big XII champion. UT has only done that twice (1996 and 2005). You might want to consider routinely winning the conference before deciding that year in and year out winning a conference title and going to the BCS is not enough.
As a Longhorn I tend to agree with this analysis... some fans unrealistically believe that somehow its UT's right to always be included in the national championship race. By setting our hopes too high we become too disappointed when we lose even 1 game. I'm content with UT playing hard every game and contending for the Big XII title which inherently would lead to a BCS bowl birth every year. Before 2005 the last time UT won a national championship was in 1970. 35 years in between National titles. Sorry fellow Longhorns, VY isn't walking through that door.
While I agree with you in theory, it would seem to me that the goal of every sports organization is to go out every day, win every single game, and achieve the highest success possible (which in this case, is a national championship). So I don't think UT fans are out-of-line in expecting their team to compete for the championship every year. If you aren't the best, you keep tweaking, keep upgrading, keep practicing, until you ARE the best. The only way you hit a bullseye is by aiming for it. And, unfortunately, college football is an environment where one loss can eliminate you from contention, so I can understand fans bemoaning even a single loss. Besides, if you think they're upset now, just wait until OU dismantles Texas next weekend.
Didn't we all know this was coming? I mean Texas has not been playing their best ball this year. Luckily for Texas, Oklahoma lost too.
BAM! that was good stuff. to be fair, there's nothing wrong with setting the bar high, though post vy texas fans have gotten annoying.
those fans have moved on to Nashville. and when he retires, theyll cheer him on at the shuffle board league at the old folks home.
