    goofy.

this movie, like the other 2, makes all pirates of all races look everything from heroic to cowardly...from good to bad.

I dont think the burden of proof falls on yuantian, unless you're admitting that you believe the "Pirates" portrayal is an acurate one. If you don't believe it's accurate, then yuantian doesn't haver to show you anything, if you do believe it's accurte then Yuantian should show you something :D

the only people who'd be offended by Octopus davy jones is the people of Octopi obviously. :D

it doesn't matter what they really look like, just don't look like the ones in the movies. i don't really care what the movie makes other people to be, i just don't see what the big fuss this is about. who cares if 10 minutes got cut off. big deal.

    that's just censorship. that's a big deal.

you're right, its not a serious movie, but yet a entire country was offended by a movie which characters are cartoonlike. why doesn't every country do that? if there was some foreign film that offended americans, do they cut those scenes out? or what about mexico? or japan?

Censorship is generally not desirable in a free society. But then again, the US is hardly the beacon for absolute freedom. Depending on the situations, one man's freedom could be another man's misery. So some forms of regulations by governments, necessary evils if you will, are required in a real world. There are plenty of stuff that Americans would find offensive while the majority of Chinese may feel indifferent about and shrug them off. Pot calling kettle black is what this thread is all about.

For what it's worth, since this is a tinman thread, methinks Vernon Maxwell is an ass everybody should make fun of.

look if you want to sell things in Japan, you have to play by their rules also. Same as every other country. Pirates o fthe Carribean is the same as bubble gum, cars and other commercial products.

if it were up to the haters like that goverment that took 10 minutes off the movie, they'd remove Maxwell from last minutes of game 7 of the NBA Finals. The game would be a 4 point game, then suddenly David Stern presents the Rockets the trophy.

That's what it is about. If you are offended, fine. at least let the people decide if it is, not the goverment.

    MAXWELL FOREVER!!

that's why they have ratings here for R. so kids don't have to hear it.
They don't bleep out the Sopranos on HBO. on A&E they do.

i guess if you believe your government knows what's right for you thats cool.
did you ever watch the Kung-Fu TV series? or did they just erase Kane, grasshopper?

it's a movie whose sole purpose is to make money. The "Tiananmen Square Massacre" thread has probbaly covered these other points ad nauseum.

    hotballa,
all those YOFs are super sensistive. You remember the Lebron article about freethrow shooting? had NOTHING to do with Yao, yet they were ticked that Yao was mentioned as a GOOD Free throw shooter!! YOFs were going bonkers! Serves their negative and backwards view caused the Rockets to lose in the 1st round and Lebron goes to the Finals. Thanks YOFs, your fault.

If it was REALLY OFFENSIVE, why would Chow Yun Fat, a legendary actor, agree to play that role??

    answer me that YOFer!

If evil Pirates from China are offensive , what do you think of William Hung??

I think people ALL OVER THE WORLD know that not all asians sing like that dude.

so you think a black guy doing a white person impersonation is really the same as a white guy putting on blackface and doing a tapdance?
