Sorry to hear about your fiancee's mom. Hope it works out.

Where would you move given the chance?

Next door to bnb. :) Actually, I've always wanted to visit Vancouver ever since my Dad almost got a job there a decade ago, so who knows.

Seriously, I dunno. The finacee' may have a chance to work over in Europe in a couple of years, so that may be an option.

I actually think that the stuff I'm most upset about will take a turn for the better. At least I hope.

I'm still an admin here no matter what country you're in.

By the way - I am curious for you to detail your reasoning. If you do that, I won't move it to D&D and the others will keep it civil.

OK, keeley, thanks. I've always liked you, btw. As well as the rest... :)

I'm not saying that I want to move because Bush got re-elected. My biggest concern is with the 11 states that voted to ban gay marriage two weeks ago. I have a huge problem with that. Once Texas does the same thing, as it's rumored to be on the legistative agenda this year, I will move from Texas to a state that does not currently ban gay marriage. If and when the U.S. Constitution is amended to ban gay marriage, I will move from this country. The only way I won't is if that same amendment also bans heterosexual divorce and adultery.

My hope is that by 2006 or 2008, we have somehow taken care of our part of the mess that is Iraq currently. I think we will. Then, hopefully you will see those who disagree with this war being waged on homosexuals rally around that issue rather than the Iraq issue. I like to think that if there was no Iraq, that would've happened this election cycle.

You will never convince me that allowing two loving homosexuals to marry is worse for the sanctity of marriage than Britney Spears getting married in Vegas, only to get divorced 36 hours later. Nor is it worse than both of my sisters getting divorced and leaving their children in a broken home for the majority of their childhoods.

Words change their meanings all the time. There's no reason marriage can't be one of them.

    RM95 --

wow. i am seriously displeased with a lot in this country. have been for a long time. i know you disagree with me, but can you imagine how i must feel about this country's policies on abortion, and what that must mean through my eyes?? absolutely horrific, from my perspective.

nevertheless, i'm not sure moving away solves anything. this is my home. i'm an american. and i won't agree with everything here...but i can't imagine uprooting my life and from all the people i care about for political reasons, unless my family's safety were in jeopardy. we have elections every 4 years. public opinion sways from year to year.

just my feelings...not saying yours are "wrong" or invalid...i just have never felt that before.

Just to play devil's advocate - but this argument is often used by liberal thought: Why should it matter to you, a hetero, whether it's banned or not? Just as the people who fight bans on gay marriage ask "how does a gay marriage affect your marriage", how does such a ban affect hetero couples?

Beyond that, if it's the discrimination you see in it and you wish to be no part of it, I respect that.

But what if there was a constitutional amendment banning any challenges to the abortion law? Would that make you feel different?

We have citizens of 11 states that just voted that a specific group of law-abiding, of age Americans aren't able to have the same rights as others, just because of who they are. That's not my America.

It's a discrimination thing more than anything else.

It's amazing to see the difference between how a political topic is discussed in the Hangout and how it is discussed in the Debate forum. Rational thought v. Poo flinging

Of course, I was one of the biggest poo flingers of all, which is probably why I can't view or post there anymore. I wish I could convince the admins that I'm not like that anymore. :)

If America makes it legal for the gays to be married and also places in more protection for abortion I'd live here anyway. But that's just me and I'm a lazy one. And I don't consider my personal beliefs to be the right way for an entire country to function. But again that's just me.

I'm not necessarily saying that I believe that either. I just wouldn't feel comfortable living in a country that overwhelmingly supported something like that. However, I have no qualms with them doing it, it's their rights as Americans as it is mine to vehemently disagree with them.

Couple of thoughts: Jim Rome had a good take on the whole MNF crappola. There is so so so much more sex and love out there on tv that these kind of things are ridiculous. Those freaking viagra, levitra commercials. Shoot me now.

Rocketman: I'm with you somewhat. I agree completely that the fact that the gay marriage bans passed so effortlessly, despite reeking of outright discrimination masquerading as moral values, blows my mind, as do many other macro issues that confuse me (the environment, foreign policy, religion playing such a huge role, etc.).

But I'm not at the point where I just have to get up and move. Life isn't that bad, really, is it? That said, as I've been looking for jobs over the past few months out of state, I have looked at Vancouver, among other areas. It is an area I know I would enjoy, and just because it isn't America, it wouldn't preclude me from moving.

Completely agree. It absolutely blows my mind how easily this passed in those 11 states. I've actually looked at moving as well and going to grad school overseas. If this country is as intolerant as those election results show, it's not a place I want to live.

What's the product with Bob in the commercials?

Meet Bob, he's had an explosion of activity since he tried ??? And Mrs. Bob is excited to see Bob when he comes home. All the neighbors are jealous of Bob.

Those commercials are the most over the top as far as erectile dysfunction remedies are concerned.
