Prediction: Bill Davis will be the linebackers coach, Brian Stewart will be the defensive backs coach, and Bob King will be hired as assistant linebackers coach. Davis was just fired as defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals and coached LBs under Wade Phillips in Atlanta. Stewart coached under Phillips at both San Diego and Dallas. King also coached under Phillips in Dallas.

I mostly agree with you but if you're blaming the entire "team" players-wise, then I'd have to disagree a bit. I think more of the blame falls on the coaches and management more than anything. Yeah coaches aren't the ones on the field batting away a possible interception right into the waiting arms of an opposing team's player in position to score the game tying touchdown or throwing the game-winning interception in overtime. But the bottom line is the coaches are more to blame for putting the players in those certain situations than anyone else. Just my two cents...

The thing that sniffed of CHEAP was . . . rumors around the Mario Draft
was not so much they made the right call and just picked Mario
but that they picked Mario because he would sign before the draft
[they knew they would have a deal in hand and the draft position as leverage]
    and bush would not
[meaning they knew bush would ask for the sky because once picked
they would be locked into him]

They made a business decision . . not a football decision
It maybe a business decision that by happenstance was a good football decision

Sorry but I live here and I saw everything. This was no mere "snowball" effect at all. Wade had total control of the defense and from the get go, they were bad and went downhill from there. Now, to a man the Cowboys players praised Wade for being a players' coach and then promptly went out stunk it up and quit on him. And not just the offensive player but the defensive players as well and those were supposed to be HIS guys. What I found to be really telling was how clueless and lost Wade was as the ship went down. Garrett was in control of the offense so it fell to Wade to right the defensive ship and he could not do so. As I said before: The Wade you are getting is not the same Wade of 3 years ago. The longer he's around a team, the worse things become. All I have left to say is good luck with that.

That much is true. In fact his defenses can be exploited over the middle because of this scheme. But you guys will find out for yourselves soon enough.

Id be satisfied with allowing 9 yard runs (top five team against the run this year; what a joke) instead of having our dbs burned for 60 yard tds. Its so beautiful watching the average corner. when you are a texans fan, you really do appreciate what a competent corner does.

ill dream big. bring bailey and trade mario williams to oakland for that corner with the wierd name asumsomething

This was the Wednesday before the Jacksonville game.

Quick, somebody get some feathers and head over to Wade's house. We've got a lot of tickling to do.

    Ha!

Between that and Wade saying "Daddy...."

I wonder if Wade will refer to his defensive guys as kids?

Was listening to Pastorini on radio the other day and he called Kubiak a kid. "That kid got great character." They joked that now we know where Kubiak got it from.

This is just a flat out lie.

Every year he was with the Chargers the defense got better in points allowed.

Every year in Buffalo his defenses went like this in Yards: 13, 9, 9, 6, 1, 3
    and in points went: 12, 6, 23, 15, 2, 18 (no trend)

With Dallas his defense fell apart in his last year. His secondary went to hell and the players quit playing for him as a head coach.

So one year. One year we've seen his defenses collapse with him at the helm.

Next time you want to trash the Texans Hillboy try to use the truth. Why anyone would want to make stuff up to bash this team when there is plenty of true material out there is beyond me.

I'm sorry; I'm struggling to find how a $54M contract in which $26.5M of it was guaranteed is anywhere near "cheap". It might have been "cheaper" - but they still opened the wallet and dumped a ton of cash on an unproven rookie defensive end.

If Bush wanted appreciably more money, even then, he wasn't worth it. That's not cheap; it's smart.

I lived there for 10 years... 10 long, miserable years. And I can tell you: Wade Phillips is not a Dallas guy. He's beneath them and I'm guessing was treated as such by a dirty media who not only buys in to the empty idea of Dallas being this progressive, cosmopolitan mecca - they help sell it. I'm guessing too much of your perception is painted by how vicious the holier-than media became at his expense based on how many times you've mentioned how they treated him.

If you have a top 9 defense for 3 years in a row - I'm sorry: I'm less inclined to worry about it crumbling over an 8-game stretch. It's not a positive, ringing endorsement, obviously - but it doesn't wash away three full years of success.

This is simply not true. In the 3 years prior, under Bill Parcells no less, Dallas' defense ranked 13, 10 and 16. In Wade's first three years: 9, 8, 9. They were not bad "from the get go."

I don't. Like others have said, I think this whole thing has been planned out for weeks. The meaningless win over Jacksonville gave him the excuse to act on it. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that McNair didn't even know about the report that we were on Cower's "list". If he knew, I'd be willing to bet that he didn't care. He already had a plan.

I've been saying this all along. It fits McNair's profile since he's been the owner.

It's almost like he thinks winning is sort of the icing on the cake. The "cake" being the fact that:

    1. We have an NFL team when we thought we never would again
    2. We have a state-of-the-art stadium and we can tailgate (we couldn't with the Oilers)
    3. We have coaches and players of high character who stay out of trouble off the field (for the most part)
    4. We have modestly dressed cheerleaders who don't show a lot of skin unlike most other NFL squads (no, I will NOT let this go)
    5. We have a family-friendly game-day atmosphere in a comfortable environment
I get the feeling McNair thinks we should be satisfied with this. And when he thinks we want more, he thinks bringing in Bum's son (Bum Phillips is a HOUSTON ICON, after all) is going to make us all feel better and remind us all of those great old Luv Ya Blue days. And that will gloss over the fact that we still SUCK ON ICE after 9 years.

As far as winning goes....eh....if it happens, even better. If it doesn't, well, we can all still feel good about the product because of everything listed above.

This is just my flea bitten theory.

I think it had more to do about what he said on the late show with Letterman, and how he would have to get used to losing or something along those lines if he gets drafted #1.

Well, that turned out to be a smart move on his part because he didn't have to get used to losing by going to the Saints.

As long as the number of fans who think this continue to be abundant, McNair will never address the winning aspect of the team. NINE freaking years later, and we still think it's a Godsend that we have a team. So it's irrelevant whether or not it's actually any good.

    This is bull****.

Any line of reasoning that blames the fans for the actions of an NFL franchise is bull****.

Conspiracy theories like this ridiculously overestimate the amount of time NFL owners and execs think about fans, which in reality is pretty close to zero.

I am grateful to have an NFL team here, it DID suck to be without it, and I still wish they would have gone for Cowher. They didn't; it ticked me off. I'll still watch my team and support my team, however.

And if you think that makes people like me the problem, I'm sorry, but you're full of ****.

I don't think he's blaming the fans themselves, I think he's blaming McNair for thinking that it's okay to keep the status quo because the fans will support you no matter what.

I can b**** and moan the entire offseason about how pissed off I am, but the bottom line is I will be back.

Football is the greatest sport ever invented and as long as the city I was born and raised in and still live in actually has a team, I will support it no matter how many 5-7 seasons in a row we manage to build up (I'm guessing 2 or 3 more).

I can't see myself jumping ship and supporting a non-Houston team ever. Sad but true. I am hopelessly hooked.

    I love my Five-and-Sevensans.

Yea, I mentioned this last week, I survived Buffalo, Iso ball, Carr and Drayton losing his mind...I'll survive McNair losing his mind. I'll hold out hope, misguided maybe, and watch them on Sunday from my living room.

in that case I regret some of the wording of my take, although the principle is correct.
