i think the main reason is this 3M do not count in salary cap. thus, the manager just need to consider if they have cash.
Oh, that's why they spread the "Yao out for indenfinitely" news, try to intimate Gortat? 3.5M for how many years? Sounds like 3...farewell, wafer boy...
It is and teams will remember that before he got to Houston he didn't do much, he had moments surrounded by good players, I doubt he produces much more on a struggling team and I think they would know it.
Thank you Von. You had a good year but I guess it was too much for your ego. You think you are Kobe Bryant now.
I'd agree if it was 3.5 per year. But turning down 3.5 spread out over however many years, good move Von.
Everyone should wait to see what Wafer actually gets compared to what we offer before you go all nuts. Wafer would be an idiot if he chose to take a drastic paycut just to continue playing with a team he played one solid year with and right now doesn't have exactly the best news going for them. Get over the idea players should just play for Houston no matter what salary is offered because "they had a good year here." If a team is willing to drastically overpay Wafer....good for Von Wafer. I will understand the criticism when we get a better idea of where he goes and for how much and what we offered him. (Even then though, if the numbers are close and he left, maybe he expects to get more minutes elsewhere or wants to be closer to a geographic area....in other words THEY AREN'T INDENTURED SERVANTS). I mean good grief, the guy has been here all of a minute, you people don't even have the "sentimental value of playing for the place he has spent several years" card.
Let Wafer go. Gortat should be the priority. If Yao come back healthy, the Rocket have a 7 foot PF/C shotblocker on the bench. If Yao retires, a medical retirement possibly means his salary won't count towards the cap. Meaning both McGrady and Yao's salary will come off the books in 2010 free agency. To attract a superstar free agent the Rocket will still need a good roster. Gortat helps to make the Rockets frontcourt look respectable without Yao.
I aslo think gortat is top priority and he should have good chemistry with scola. 2009 is not a good year for free agent. The guards like artest & wafer should be low priority. If they can find some team give them big contract, we should let them go...
Gortat Scola Shane Ron Brooks I think that is a playoff caliber starting lineup. All 5 of these guys play hard, and some nights that's good enough. It's by no means a contending starting lineup or even a second round lineup. But, given the shots and minutes, Scola can easily put up Yao's numbers. Given the garbage and put backs, Gortat can easily put up Scola's numbers. The only problem is they don't spread the floor and command the double team like Yao.
You are right about the lack of a double team. That is where we are going to need someone able to create. I think we would need an athletic wing. Maybe somehow pry Gay away from memphis
If we can't get Artest I think we should look at Gordon. Gordon could be our generic T-mac and Gortat could be our wannabe Yao for the season. Its gonna be our best shot this year.
Gay is not the answer. Bad efficiency. Turnover prone, bad shots, regressed numbers since last season, no defense. Way overrated.
No hate here for Von. Morey called Wafer near elite for his ability to explode and dunk at the rim, I'll miss him for those moments when he made me jump out of my seat when he posterized a defender with one of those dunks.
He has also played on teams with no real veteran leadership. He would not be my first choice but maybe one of the easier ones to get. Morey wanted him for a reason. I think with better coaching and vets pushing him there is plenty of room to mature
can anyone confirm that it was $3.5 spred out over 2 years? because if it was, that's a crapy offer for a guy with Wafer's production. I don't blame him for turning that crap down. I would have expected better out of Morey. No way we can keep him for $1.75 a year. I was under the impression that the offer was $3.5 a year. That would be a fair offer, and if Wafer wants to turn that down, so be it.
No need to blame hime. Wafer is little chance to be a rockets next season after adelman sent him to locker room in playoff.
