I think they have tax, issues, however. So matching a $5.5 million offer might cost them $11 million.
Nothing's special about Gortat. But nothing's bad about him either, which why I think he makes a really good big man. He can catch and dunk, play defense and rebound some. That's really all you need if you have good players at every position like we do.
I think fox26 is at 9...abc13 news starts at 10... so if it was fox 26, it was probably Mark Berman, he is one of the best sports reporters in Houston and he probably found out the info before anyone else...
Do the Knicks really need Gortat? I mean, they just traded for Milicic, and they also have other big men.
No they can't because they all think they are some sort of God send people that would not try to maximize their profits and rather stay loyal to their team. Bunch of **** if you ask me. Like I said earlier, if Wafer thinks he can get a better deal, then good for him. I don't understand why he can't seek more money. Just because he loves Houston and he got his opportunity here doesn't mean he should give this team a discount. Take care of business Wafer.
Gortat doesn't just rebound some, when he had Yao like minutes he rebounded like a monster and his regular season numbers were great for the little amount of time he got. He is a lot shorter and lighter than Yao and brings different things to the plate, such as handling passes and I think better rebounding and perhaps blocking but his time has been limited so we will see. He will not score as much as Yao but is efficient and will put up 10-15 ppg and will average like 10-12 rbs and 2-4 blocks. Jermaine Taylor I think will bring a better scoring presence than Von consider he is much stronger built like DWade and has the ability to attack more. Budinger will get to prove himself and why he should have been a first rounder, to me the kid looks eager to prove everyone wrong who has been calling him soft..Dirk lite maybe?
so what's the deal? Berman is normally pretty connected, so if he said it it's probably true. was it on ABC or Fox? I rarely catch the late news anymore...is Melton still the sports guy at ABC?
we're desperate for a center. dude has a nice short jumper, can dunk, plays well around the basket, probably a stronger rebounder than yao and likes to play a system. he likes to set picks and passes first. he's not trigger happy with the ball when he gets his hands on it (uh.. remember wafer?) im not sure magic can sign gortat to a contract he'd like. they just brought in vince carter which seriously hampered their chances of re signing turkoglu. between him and hedo, if i were orlando, id go for turk. sure, big men are hard to find, but he's not gonna play big minutes with DH there. and they have ryan anderson. dude's 6'10". they can afford to play him at C for 5-10mins a game. also tony battie and foyle.
Wafer should reject 3.5 mil for 2 years. No way wafer will reject 3.5 mil for a year!!! If so...GOOD BYE I would love to see what our second round picks and james white can do.
This message board thrives on overrating talent that hasn't even played. I remember last year, "***** Carl, we have Joey Dorsey now" or "McGrady's replacement has been found, welcome to Houston Von". Its nice that you all love the young guys and want to be optimistic, I have nothing against that, but for once can you all also be realistic. James White? Our second rounders? Are you kidding me? They haven't proven nothing yet we are going to rely on them to hopefully provide just because Morey chose them. I trust Morey, but come on guys, be realistic.
Yeah really. If it was 3.5 a year, Wafer is an idiot. And I'm a Wafer fan. If it was 3.5 over 2 years, then by all means he should've rejected it. That's a low ball offer our only source of bench points
Good post. There's no reason to think that our second rounders are going to compensate in any way for losing Wafer. They might - but we just can't be sure. We should call Phoenix back about the Stoudemire/ Barbosa for McGrady/Landry trade rumour. Makes sense for them in that they shed a ton of salary for next season and have a young PF who they can have a look at for a season. Worst case with McGrady is that he doesn't come back for them and they get his insurance - best case is that he comes back late in the season looking to prove a point (or get another contract) and becomes a major asset.
We're going to be WITNESSES of the GREAT McGrady and Gortat pick and roll. I can already envision a pick from Gortat and then a roll and McGrady finds him while Gortat dunks the ball.
A valid point. I'm guessing they want to pair Gortat, and Darko. They might be willing to trade Lee for a replacement starting SG, now that Q is gone. Nate won't be enough. Curry is lazy, they want to dump him. Another point to bring up,Gortat is no starter. The Knicks may or may not have a better front line than ours even without Yao,but they are a relatively healthy team in a weaker conference. Gortat might choice NY over Houston. PS:I don't see Ron wanting to return to Houston anymore.
Saleem, Gortat won't accept a one year offer from New York. I believe New York is not going to sign anybody more then a one year deal because of there chase of LeBron in 2010.
Sorry guys...my brother was the one filling me in on the story. It was Bob Allen as the anchor. Can someone please find the video link. The story was on a segment called What we heard or something like that. Sorry for being vague, but their website is not user friendly
