Congratulations, Von Wafer. You will now have Flip Murray's career. Good luck with that. Seriously, though, I highly doubt that the Rockets made an official offer to Von. Until they and Ron Artest come to a resolution of his free agent status, I just don't see the Rockets jeopardizing any portion of their MLE, which they may need to pursue an Artest replacement. But, who knows? Maybe the Rockets' front office has had a shift in philosophy since the Yao news and wants to re-sign a young (23-year-old) Wafer now for the rebuilding process. Still, one of Jermaine Taylor, Chase Budinger and James White should be able to replace much of what Von gave the Rockets last season.
Actually, i don't see us easily replacing Wafer's production. We got lucky on that one; he was a find. Let's hope Morey's found another improbable sucess story. and for all who are knocking Wafer, please stop taking this thing personally. nothing wrong with going with the best offer (as long as you're not trying to force a trade on draft day )
Never liked Wafer's game or attitude. Glad he is gone. I wouldnt have offered him anything over 1.5million.
Wow Morey offered Von 3.5 million! Thats too much for that whiney biatch. Let him go somewhere else. I still remember how Vujacic frazzled him like he was his b****. tsk tsk tsk. Wherever he goes he will not have a better situation like he had here.
Wait a minute, are they even allowed to make an offer to Von until July 1st? I mean, are they cheating? By the way, I am changing my mind about who the perfect big man candidate is... it's not Sheed any more given the Yao injury. If there is a good chance he misses this season, you want someone who is younger so hopefully Yao comes back next year and you have a game-tested big man to either back him up and hopefully reduce his minutes furhter or play a "twin tower" (don't know if it'll work, but worth a try, I guess).
Damn, can you guys ease up on Wafer? So he didn't jump at the first offer thrown his way. Boo freakin hoo. He's got the whole summer to weigh his options, there's no reason to settle for a reasonable offer before the free agency period even begins.
It was on the news at 9 pm. I didn't record it. If you want more details...I can give what me and my brother remember. First thing the Sports Anchor said in a segment: 1. Morey is targeting Gortat aggresively and so are the Knicks. Nothing more than that. 2. Von rejected an offer of 3.5 million. (my brother heard 3.3 million, but essentially the same). The anchor said this is why morey wanted to draft SGs because this might happen and that Von is most likely going to be replaced unless he takes the offer (if it is still available) 3. Doctors are still hopeful that immobilizing the leg will work and heal it, but nothing is for sure. Alot of things need to be addressed.
If the money's the same, Gortat would sign here. Howard isn't going to miss much time. Gortat is a fragile bone away from becoming a fixture in the starting lineup here.
40-50 games? If we could get Gortat (basically a middle-man's DH), we'd be going toe to toe with the Lakers and the Spurs.
never mind. Gortat is a RFA. Orlando would be foolish not to match any legit offer, particularly considering that Shaq now is in the East and Howard is a foul machine.
Not sure, if magic sign him at 4m, they need to pay 4m more for tax. That mean they need 8m for a backup center...
