I don't take it personally. Wafer is looking for his payday and that's why i never really expected him to be back with the rockets. He may get $4 mil somewhere else, but I think $3.5 was a pretty fair offer. I say no hard feelings and good luck in the future.
I hope we do get Gortat, when he played, he did really good. Thats to bad about Wafer, for someone who supposely loved this team so much he's seems ready to somewhere else pretty quick. I guess the team that gave him his 1st real season in the NBA isn't that important to him.
] In my opinion, nothing. He is a good backup, that's all. He plays aggressively, but isn't particularly skilled.
Good for Wafer. If he's getting a better offer, congrats! He's worked hard to earn it. Nothing wrong with guy taking care of his finances.
I LOVVVVVE that we are pushing hard for Gortat. He is nothing spectacular but I believe he would fit in nicely with this team. I was hoping we got him to back up Yao, but if he has to start until Yao comes back (hopefully), then I think we still have enough to get into the playoffs depending on who we sign/trade for. Yay Polish Hammer!!!!!!! btw...Im Polish so maybe I am biased
Or perhaps he should look out for himself, just like most human being would, and try to get a better deal elsewhere. I don't see why you fans are so dam offended by this. I love Wafer, but if he feels he can get more money elsewhere as well as more playing time, then why not? What is so wrong with this?
He played very well when Dwight was suspended and has proven to be a pretty good backup center. He is pretty athletic for his size and can finish around the rim fairly well. He is also a decent shot blocker and defender.
He's over 6'10 and not a complete spaz like Brian Cook. I need more sources on Wafer turning down that money, it maybe the Rockets spreading it and they actually want to use that money on offering Gortat a contract competitive to his market value.
Glad Wafer's out, dude whines too much anyways. Gortat should sign here if he wants playing time, don't know how much we can offer him compared to other teams. (Ric Bucher Twitter) Yao update: Same situation as March '08. Returned for Olympics and best season. Likeliest scenario - surgery, misses part of next season. ^^^ Good news
rejecting 3.5/mil a year especially when teams are looking to cut payroll? i never thought he was too sharp to begin with, if this report is true then my suspicions are correct. probably needs to feed his family
I wonder if the Rockets are releasing the Yao injury news, and maybe taking a gloomier approach, to make the team a more attractive destination for a FA center like Gortat, who would love to have more minutes. I don't doubt Yao is injured, but why talk about it now? They weren't all that forthcoming with info on TMac's injury last year (it took TMac himself writing a blog or something to leak it) , but this time apparently some Rockets execs have been admitting to other teams about this.
Wow that is a really weak team. It just hit me right now that how much not having Yao down grades the team.
