"Exception" is a strong word, considering the list of players I just rattled off. Of ALL players selected 25-45 in the past nine NBA Drafts, an astounding 42% of them become quality NBA players. That sounds a fairly decent probability. That 42% becomes a much higher probability when you factor in that many of those picks were made by less competent front offices than the Rockets' current brass. Daryl Morey knows that players in the 25-45 range, when selected properly, have a success rate much higher than most other teams value those picks as assets. Hence, the trades and the cash being made available to acquire those picks. Instead of completely dismissing my answer with a blanket statement about "second round successes being exceptions", take a closer look at my answer and realize that the #32 pick is within a range that includes some pretty decent company AT A SUBSTANTIAL HIT RATE.
I was thinking the exact same thing. Not to mention the fact that Orlando would be ignorant to part with him unless somebody offers him a ridiculous contract (which I believe The Rockets will do). Honestly, Rick Adelman has never been a big man coach. If you look at his better teams, it was always guys like Divac and Brad Miller. Passing big men who could hit the 15 footers. In my opinion, it never really worked out with Yao and The Lakers series pretty much proved that. There was so much more ball movement without Yao. If you can get Gortat for 3.5 Million Per, it's worth the risk. But as I said, why wouldn't Orlando match that when they know he is the only real backup they have for Howard? I could easily see Morey throwing 6-7 Million Per at him and that is just a dumb move in my view.
Since everyone bags on T-mac all the time, I thought I'd post this elite athleticism video from a healthy Streetball. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kIcWuqacoo8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kIcWuqacoo8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Wow. You're totally right. Now I see how much better McGrady is for our team. By showing us that Wafer misfired on a jump you have completely opened my eyes to his complete lack of physical skills. Nothing to discuss here anymore folks, Wafer and his athleticism should be down at the local Y.
He's closer to the Y than an elite NBA player. He took off from the lane there - on the side! No handles, no defense, and he got kicked off the team during a playoff game. Which is more overpaid? $4M/year for a one-dimensional streetballer with an attitude problem, or $23M/year for someone when healthy that's a perennial All-star and MVP candidate? The reason I posted this video is that the Jamario Moon and McGrady hung gets a lot of play. I don't understand the double standard. If Wafer fans applied the same logic, then he shouldn't be signed for anything more than $1-2M per. By the way, has anyone ever seen anyone brush his testicles across McGrady's ears on a dunk? This seems a lot worse than Jamario Moon. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/I9TA4-0JRaM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/I9TA4-0JRaM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Agreed. I can't believe so many are overlooking the fact that Von is one outburst away from playing back in the D-leagues. There are tons of elite level athletes who who looked all-world in the right circumstance but never "got their minds right" and now tear it up at the rec center.
Also it's one thing to have the mentality that you're supposed to defer the ball to your stars like Yao, but when our franchise players are gone, you're going to see Wafer chuck the ball up even more and expect a higher role on offense that I don't think he's capable of. He's a spark off the bench. Not much more yea and when he was a starter he avg 16 points a game ?
Since everyone bags on T-mac all the time, I thought I'd post this elite athleticism video from a healthy Streetball. u can also find lebron james get owned by a rim and many other players ..........
No Mcgrady. No Yao. No Mutombo. Probably no Artest. Brooks, Landry and Battier are trade bait. And were not going to re-sign Wafer? Am I hearing this correctly?
Sorry Smooth, I was only agreeing with what Morey said when he said Von was an elite athlete and it created mismatches. And you are assuming he will never get better, I think he will mature and get a lot better. DD
Ever seen Lebron get hung when jumping from the side of the lane? I haven't. I thought the Jamario Moon dunk proved that McGrady had no heart since he didn't tackle him flagrantly from behind? What does getting Testied prove about Wafer?
Wasn't Wafer our number 1 scorer in the Portland series? I don't think we should let Wafer walk. He is only going to get better (and more mature), and we need young talent to build around considering that we are on the verge of possibly rebuilding.
