Ok. Thanks for spending the time on that answer. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that Wafer was an excellent player that will not be easily replaced. It also does not change the fact that second round success stories are the exception to the rule. Otherwise, they would not have fallen into the second round.
Agree, but what really makes Von special is his ability to attack the basket with total abandon, the guy just makes a V-line for the rack and it's go time. He really puts the defense on their heels whether the lane is open or not. Downside is he probably has the lowest BB-IQ on the team or the entire league for that matter. I have mixed feeling about resigning or not resigning him. He's a great weapon if he's under control.
I agree with what your saying and would like to sign him, but less than 3.5 mill. But, he plays little to no defense and his handles are extremely skepticle when pressured.
I keep seeing posters saying if Von Walks we can get either Taylor or White to fill his role. If I remember correctly, White was the top scorer in the D-League when we signed him. Taylor was the third highest scorer in the NCAA this year. I think they were both around 26-27 ppg. So which would be the preferred option? How would a college schedule compare to that of a D-League team? I am asking because I really don't know, but I would be inclined to give the edge to White because he has played in a professional system and I would think the level of play from game to game is more consistent. Just curious.
Scoop Berman just dismissed Bob Allen report on Von Wafer. He actualy talked to Wafer's agent something I know Bob Allen didn't do.
When did getting Gortat become the biggest off season signing of this year? He's a backup C AT BEST and made the most out of his 5 minutes of fame. He is not going to push us into championship category.
Berman said Von's agent dimissed a report on another TV station saying that the Rockets and Von havent talked and couldnt have talked because it would be breaking the NBA rules of speaking to a FA before they could (11:00). And dont quote me on this but they might of also mentioned that Von wants to be back here. And then finally, we are targeting Gortat. Oh yeah, what we already knew, that Ron also wants to be back and Yao's situation has no factor on his decision. First option is Houston, but if not, they are going to explore their options to get Ron on a championship caliber team. Nothing really new.
Backup if Yao is here, healthy and playing, but starting otherwise which is a very likely scenario if he does sign here. And I know he's not going to push us into contending category if Yao isnt here, which is what I was trying to get across. Why sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal if hes not gonna help much? Settle on someone less who is willing to perhaps sign a 1 yr deal.
Wafer has temper problems. He got ejected in game 2 of the Lakers game on the bench. Not ejected by the refs. He got his ass kicked out by Adelman. His attitude problems aren't one single incident either. There's a reason he's been shipped around the league and its not from lack of talent. Also it's one thing to have the mentality that you're supposed to defer the ball to your stars like Yao, but when our franchise players are gone, you're going to see Wafer chuck the ball up even more and expect a higher role on offense that I don't think he's capable of. He's a spark off the bench. Not much more.
Mostly agree. I think we should resign him. I'm pretty sure Von can get better. He may not have the BB-IQ yet but I think he can get smarter and I think he has special talent. I don't think his talen is dime-a-dozen...I don't see people with his speed and hops all the time. Not to mention heart/emotion (which can be good or bad). And, he's young. Just an excuse...just sayin... Would love to see some Gortat.
I don't miss the Vohawks, I do miss the the sensation it created. If he comes back, great, if he doesn't I'm glad because he is a Kobe-lover.
Wafer is talented, but has attitude problems, and I have no problems with Morey being reluctant to throw him a big contract.
