I grew up in LA but live in SF now. Its definitely very white/asian (specifically chinese) but the city itself isnt that big. The bay area as a whole is pretty diverse though. Los Angeles is an interesting place. If theres any city that can be considered a mosaic its definately LA. All kinds of people there, but the dont mix.
I've actually told this to many of my non Houstonian friends. Obviously there are alot of whites, hispanics and african americans here, but we also have such a large establishment of asian, middle eastern, and african communities. It's a great city to live in. There might not be the things to do here like in other cities, but it's a great place non the less.
New York City would probably be more diverse, but they've got the best entry-level and liberal arts-related professional opportunities in the country, so you get a new crop of out-of-town white kids every year. I think if they couldn't get to New York they'd probably just look at corporate or government jobs in their own town. Rag on the energy industry all you want, it's one of the few industries that doesn't reserve higher salaries for the sales and management roles; which require soft skills that alot of otherwise talented minorities and immigrants just lack.
London. It's the only city that compares with New York in terms of the number and breadth of immigrants. I am intensely proud of Houston's ethnic diversity but the idea that it is more diverse than New York is silly.
definitely more diverse than NYC... NYC has more people so maybe it seems as if there are more but I think this is by % Houston, for example, has the largest Nigerian community in the USA
You're talking out your ass. NYC has long held the reigns but the article clearly states that Houston has made dramatic leaps the last few years. That does not surprise considering that Texas has made gains in population while the other big metros/states generally lost people. As for London, here is Wiki: Seriously? 70% of them are white and you call that diverse?
I'd be very surprised if 70% of London were white but you will note if you re-read what I wrote that I mentioned number and breadth, not percentage.
