in fact, AB did not shoot well until this season. I think AB can shoot even better next season. He will improve again. The guy is a winner except his contract being sucky low.
Haha, this thread was made in 2008 so, to the people who voted he will be out in 2-3 years (including the OP) are totally wrong.
Yikes! In all fairness, you're a good poster and I've always enjoyed your stuff. Well, except for this. But hey, we all have our skeletons. I basically guaranteed Mike James would have a Jason Terry type season for us the second time around. Needless to say, I was just a tad bit off on that one.
Wow! hahaha it's crazy looking back and seeing what people thought of Brooks back then. AB proved them seriously wrong.
he's too small(but size isn't everything, look at the successful career of earl boykins who's a mere 5' 5" or chris Paul who's only about 6'0") - although they say he can shoot from distance, his actual in game shooting does not reflect the skill - he is quick, but has huge problems finishing either because he is jittery or he cannot absorb and finish after the non-foul bumps that invariably occur. - he does not exhibit the natural playmaking skills of a true PG(who cares if he's not a traditional point guard? besides this and the above two points can improve over time)
Heh.....if we could put a time limit on when people could vote it would make these threads much better to bring up later. DD
congrats to him on being the most improved player...we all saw his game change and improve, but it's all about consistency and how the team goes forward...
Wow.. I thought this was a new thread. I was like really... 20PPG and 5 Assists, leagues MIP.... out of this league in 3 years???... He is either about to get locked up with us for 5+ years or someone else if we trade him this year to a team that wants to sign him 5+ years as their franchise PG. He is in a good place now and will only be better with an upgraded supporting cast that can take some pressure off him and finally get an open shot or two, which I dont think he has had since he got in this league. He understands too that in order to truely last in this league 10+ years, he will have to take a page from Steve Nash and make everyone else better.
This thread is ruined. I did not realize people can still vote. I voted Brooks out of the league in 2 - 3 years ( ) based on the fact that Rafer seemed to be starting forever and every Rafer's back PG had been out of the league in one year.
Dang it, didn't realize this thread was necro'd so I voted "future starter duhhhh" Back then I would've voted "career backup". You proved me wrong Aaron!
Well, I didn't care for the pick, but after I had a chance to really watch film, I changed my mind big time. It was the Great Leebigez who said afetr getting the starts at the end of his rookie year the rockets should trade alston in the offseason for players. Yep that was me and some laughed and talked about the virtues and the great defense of rafer. Well, rafer shouldn't have never been paired with a guy like tracy in the backcourt. Why? Rafer's greatest strength is ball handling and decision making and his biggest weakness is shooting. Pairing him with tracy elevated what he couldn't do and smeraed what he could. Much like lowry, rafer needs and can run a team as a pure point but needs finishers. If you put him out there with a bunch of standstill guys and he doesn't have the ball, it really wastes what he can do. Back on topic and patting myself on the back , there will always be those who don't like the way brooks plays. There are alot of people who have this belief in the john stocton type pg's to be successful when in reality those kind of full ball control pg's haven't won any rings. The closest we have had has been rondo and he was sharing minutes with eddie house in alot of those games. In this microwave society, people want it now and don't want to wait. I think, well i know brooks has special talents and right now all he needs is Tony Chacher's and he will be fine. His ability to get his feet in the paint and make shots off the dribble are upper echelon. It won't take much for him to be 20 ppg 7 asst. In fact, he played most of the season with battier, ariza, and hayes in the starting lineup and kept the team afloat.
