No, I am saying that the guy is still developing, and to say that RIGHT NOW this is all he will ever be is just plain ignorant.

Brooks is not a typical PG, that is true, he is a guy that is a bit like Calvin Murphy a smallish scoring combo guard.

He has to learn where to use his skill effectively, and when he figures that out, I think he will be a nice player.

But some people keep on saying "He is what he is" which is ridiculous.

So many players develop their games between their 2nd and 4th years, after 3 or 4 years then you can say...."Ok, this is what you have"...but after his first year of playing significant minutes, I think it is silly to say that.

I also attribute it to a slump and lack of confidence. It seems like he's afraid he's going to get yanked if he screws up. He's definitely not attacking like he used to.

Brooks will never be a productive point guard on a GOOD team in this league. First, his defence is awful because of his height and lack of basketball iq. Also, I'm not sure why he gets called a "good ballhandler" because he picks up his dribble way too much and he gets trapped too easily on his penetrations and get forced to make a bad pass. He doesn't seem to know how to NOT throw a low bounce pass even when its an entry to Yao.

    Brooks is scared by Rafer.

No PG will be better than Rafer as long as Rafer is on the team.

He has struggled ever since Rafer came back from injury and was inserted into the Starting Lineup. When he was starting he was playing very well. I would guess it is a confidence issue.

Key thing is Brooks is best when looking for his shot. With the emergence of Wafer maybe he isn't looking for his shot as much. We need him to be aggressive.

truth is Brooks was never that good, he played above his abilities for a while, now simply falling back to where his skill level is, a mediocre point guard with above average speed but below average passing and shooting

Agreed. Specially for a PG. Jameer Nelson is a good example. He actually regressed before finally getting it together this year. For Brooks, he needs to get his swagger back. He lacks confidence. If he had Rafer's cockiness he'd be an All star :D

How can a guy that is 22-23 years old already be considered "never that good"? Can guys not get better over time?

When Kobe was in the league for 2 years, would you say that about him? He was average in every aspect of his game except for dunking. I'm not saying AB will be Kobe (obviously), but give the guy a chance to improve rather than pigeon-holing him as sub-par when he doesn't have 82 games under his belt yet.

It is hard to tell whether he is just plain bad and was playing over his head earlier or if he is in a funk. Time will tell.

Yeah people really need to think what they say before typing it. If a player on the Rockets is as bad as this board makes them out to be how will there ever be a good deal on the table.
