Yeah, could have been worse timing, but could have made a mint with him last summer. I wouldn't say it was the perfect time at all.

I was one of AB's biggest backers, but I hope he gets some therapy or something, and I don't mean for his high ankle sprain! Poor dude. Kind of hard to watch. :(

Maybe hooking up with Portland this next year, or even Sacramento, could get him closer to his old stomping grounds and give him a little more of a support net. I don't know.

EDIT: well after Clutch had posted similar sentiments to A_3PO. My bad.

    probably just a large fine

the thing is that refs are as protected as you can get in the NBA, even if you touch a ref in a manner this isnt appropriate and on purpose (a bump, shrug etc) that gets you automatically ejected and possibly suspended

even magic johnson when he made his brief comeback in 96 was ejected and suspended for bumping a ref (But he did it in a more aggressive manner)

Brooks tossed at the ball at the ref in a manner that wasnt natural and out of anger and it warranted more than just a technical on the floor probably. I am sure the league took a look at his history this year and saw he also threw a ball at kevin love and quitting on the team against memphis and judged that the ball was thrown at the ref more out of being upset/hot headed not getting a call than him getting the ball to the ref since it was out of bounds.

Now that ref know not to do that again...
Brooks is like a teacher to the refs...
The NBA should pay him for helping out the refs

There's this "Joe" guy who's a regular on Bill Simmons podcasts. He made a mention that Morey had a reputation in the league for overvaluing his young players thinking he can trade them for superstars. This was from a couple of years ago I think?

I don't buy the argument of trading him last summer, mainly because AB was still on a cheap contract for this season after being the MIP. After the season ended, I happened to believe last year probably represented the best AB could play (and may have been a fluke). He was getting way too much love here. At the same time, I had no expectation of him being traded before this season (even after the Rockets matched to keep Lowry).

I thought AB would be gone before the deadline and only a prophet could have predicted he would flame out so badly. Considering how things went, I think Morey did just fine.

    this.

While theoretically we can say that trading brooks in the summer was better, reality is about Morey's goal. Brooks was a card Morey was going to hold for nothing less that a blockbuster involving a superstar. Yep, because of that Morey arguably held on too long .. you can't blame him. It was never about trading Brooks; it was about collecting assets to go for a star player.

I think it's because Morey has the tools to truly measure a player's worth. For example, nobody was trying to trade for Lowry when we did. As a matter of fact, league wide, we were panned for it. We were giving up a "starting PG" in Rafer and acquiring a "backup PG" in Lowry with only an "unproven PG" in Brooks to take Rafer's place.

Obviously, all that seems ridiculous now. But at the time so called experts people were thinking the Rockets were getting the short end of the deal.

I guess when you can better measure a true player's worth most of the time you can seem to be overvaluing when what it really means is that other teams are really undervaluing what we have.

A suspension might have been a bit much.

I was never that much of a fan of Brooks but that looked like a moving screen. And that throw to the leg wasn't even hard.

I agree with that sentiment that Brooks was held on this year as an asset toward a superstar player as long as possible. I didnt see Rockets strategy being dealing Brooks as a 1-for-1 sell-high player. The Rockets also traded Shane Battier at the deadline along with Brooks. Battier himself coulda been in a sell-high early season deal. That probably made more sense to do than Brooks, though it would have been an unpopular move trading the leader of the team before the season started.

They did trade Trevor Ariza before the season, so its not like they werent thinking about adjustments to the team. They probably wanted to go with Brooks and Battier until the deadline. Still, Brooks played himself off the team quicker.

Not gonna hate on Brooks.. I think he will get it together and have a good career and he still has shot at a great career in the NBA.

    Luck to ya AB.

Brooks throwing a bad pass shouldn't lead to a suspension. ;)

I believe there should be a lot of things going on for AB

Still want to play in houston
    injury still limits his speed
after missing nearly two months, was never able to get his rythm back

feel sorry for him, if he can get himself together, practise hard in the summer, he may still be a great player next season

    wish the best for him....
