Brooks is a talented player no doubt but I would like Rudy because at PG we have Lowry. At PG I'd like more of a passer like Rubio Nash type but thats not likely. Rudy could be starting if Brandon Roy wasn't on the blazers so that explains why he's a role player. He would build up our spanish fans. Rudy's also a 6'7 SG that's great height.

Nothing against Brooks obviously he is one of my favorite players on the Rockets, but looking at this long term I think we would benefit much more from lowry as a PG as Aaron is a shoot first point guard and that is the only way he will be as effective as he has been.

Lowry on the other hand can penetrate much better than Brooks and draws fouls so easily, and is much stronger than Brooks.

Again this is a long term decision once Yao comes back and we dont have Ariza and of course assuming we get a good player for Mcgrady, expecting Bosh.

I understand how important Brooks is to the Rockets but it is my opinion, ban me for posting my opinion?

If Rudy would improve his passing skills and b-ball IQ a little, he would become the 2nd coming of Manu. But anyways be happy what we have. After our first round match up last year you can beat the Blazers were kicking themselves picking Rudy over Brooks. IF you think about it, 3 teams that took a point guard ahead of Brooks in the 07 draft is kicking themselfs in the foot. I'm talking about the Grizz, Hawks and Lakers.

Kicking themselves in the foot? Don't sound right somehow...

Yes, and I love Budinger......but Fernandez is better.

But the better one would be Shane or Trevor for him.

I think Fernandez has more upside.

Fernandez would solve our problem at the two, but without Brooks, we dont trade Alston to acquire Lowry. So it essentially becomes Fernandez/Alston or Brooks/Lowry.

And I'd have to take Brooks/Lowry.

Oh and I would consider trading Bud for Fernandez.

Right. I used some contributer member status to edit that question :) For sure Budinger for Fernandez.

Was simply meant to say Rudy now looks more like a slight Budinger upgrade than someone you trade your best player for. I'm not as high on his upside as I once was. But then he might can go all Drazen Petrovic on the league if given a starting spot. Same Blazers team, too...

as of right now, brooks and its not even close. Brooks is putting up all star caliber #s so far while rudy is a decent 6th man type of player who shoots pretty efficiently however.

I voted Fernandez and I wouldn't trade Ariza/Battier for him. Blazers would do it.

How good would Rudy be if he got the opportunity that Brooks gets here? I don't see Brooks playing this much on most other teams. How many other teams would Aaron Brooks start on?

    Sota?
    Portland?
    Memphis?
    Philly?
    Indy?
    Cha?
    Mia?
    Was?

what kind of question is that? Brooks would start on any team without Paul, Williams, Nash, Rose, Rondo but those wouldn't trade for him in the first place because they wouldn't need to.

TNT crew thought Brooks was an all star this year and Fanhouse had him on there too. Noway he is better than Paul but its a pretty illogical statement to ask whether or not he would be playing "As much." Aaron Brooks is a problem for the rest of the league, and they acknowledge it too.

Oh and Rudy has been given the oppertunities too, I read about him on the realgm blazers sub forum, they are high on him but at the same time he isn't developing as fast or up to potential.

fernandez is like a gallinari clone. both are excellent 3 point shooters but can't do much else.

as for trading budinger for fernandez i dont think id do it. budinger has an "it" factor that separates him from your normal sharpshooter.

what? fernandez has a high basketball iq and plays well either running the fastbreak or playing the half court game. he has nice court vision and passes pretty well. just watch him play with the spanish team. he just isnt getting much playing time because portland's filled with great young wings.

    +1.

How many teams out there do you guys think would have drafted brooks? a pg close to 5-10 than he is to 6'0? he was barely playing in his rookie year and was pretty unimpressive and couldnt run a team and couldnt even make an entry pass to yao. the only time he really exploded was during the playoffs because he didnt worry about getting the ball to yao who was out with an injury. dont get me wrong. i like aaron brooks now, but if i could have gotten rudy, i wouldve gone for it. there's even a possibility that brooks would gotten cut during training camp, or even during the season. im sure the other teams wouldnt have given him enough minutes and probably ended up letting him go. then i would have just signed him up or even bought him from another team for cash. imagine that. we could have probably have brooks and rudy on the team right now and we wouldnt be having problems at the SG position.

The point is Rudy doesn't get the opportunity that Brooks does, and I don't think Brooks would start on any team outside of the ones I mentioned, and I even question some of those.

I don't know why some people think it's a no-brainer. I think it is very debatable. Brooks is a better player now. But he has had more time to develop. Fernandez is playing behind one of the best 2-guard in the league, with a very crowded young talented back court.

And remember Brooks didn't have a very impressive rookie year.

    Career numbers:

    Brooks
    11.5 ppg, .417 fg%, .371 3pt%, .842 ft%, 3.1 apg, 0.6 spg

    Fernandez
    10.0 ppg, .420 fg%, .393 3pt%, .844 ft%, 2.1 apg, 1.0 spg

    Very similar numbers.

And Fernandez is half a foot taller.
