Landry is still one of the smarter players working off the ball on this team, but the fact that he still doesn't appear to be fully healthy (although he was still effective against Dallas and Golden State regardless... so I'm confused) leads me to believe that maybe we should give some of his minutes to Harris. At the same time, though, I'd almost want to give all or nothing to Harris, depending on how they're playing on any given night. Because splitting the rotation down there between Scola, Landry, Hayes, AND Harris is a little excessive.
C'mon guys, we need Chuck. He plays decent/solid defense. He is a rebound machine compared to the rest of the Rox. $2m a year sounds right. On the other hand, we pay $11m salary for two average/slightly above average PG.
I bet you think JR Smith would be a STEAL at $15M a year. ... The guy can average double-figure scoring!!!
Understatement of the week... and before entering this thread, I didn't even know this many Rockets fans didn't like Hayes. He is probably the best defender on this team. Battier is the only other who's even debatable right now... Hell, he seems to be learning to make his FT's, too, heh.
I think bball fans in general even the extraordinarily knowledgeable ones on clutchfans undervalue defense and way overvalue offense. Chuck looked especially bad on offense vs. the Kings the other day so his lack of offensive skills are really magnified. But let's face it, Aldridge was kicking Scola's ass last night, and Hayes did a great job on him when Scola came out. Hayes is great value for $2mil. He is playing the exact role I thought he would once Scola earned the starting role over him: Part-time player, defensive stopper. Back to the original thread, I though AB did well last night. I don't see him playing much when Rafer gets back though. It looks like RA has made that decision and is sticking to it. It would be nice to see Mike Harris and Novak a little more often too. At least in spot minutes. I'd really like to see more Novak when we go into those offensive funks. I think Landry is definitely not close to 100% and we're seeing that play out. I hope he heals quickly!
I think its frustration more than a dislike. And of course, the unknown is always better than what's on the court... so you get the "Chuck can't hit the broad end of a barn, bench him for that guy we saw for 15 minutes in one game do really well" Don't get me wrong. I love Mike Harris. But those of you saying Chuck is useless. Can you see Mike Harris guarding Artest? (let's not judge Chuck completely on one side of the court for the hook shot he missed in the last minute, but instead recognize the fact that he kept Artest from scoring on the last two possessions - even giving us a shot to win) Or could you see Harris keeping Aldridge from making a post up hook shot every time down the court? Something is wrong with Landry, whether or not he is completely healthy only the training staff knows, but when he didn't go up for that dunk when Tmac gave him the ball right under the basket it was obvious he doesn't have the explosiveness that he had before the injury. So cutting into his minutes might sound logical on the surface, but honestly... he's a rookie. If you want him to be able to contribute in the playoffs he needs to shake this funk he's in before we get there. Chuck is the type of player that you know exactly what you are and aren't going to get when you put him on the court. Adelman knows better than most of us what Chuck can and cannot give him, yet he still puts him in the game for defense when we need him. Novak is the same way. We know he can shoot, but Adelman also knows he gives up a lot defensively, more so than even the smaller Luther Head. In certain matchups Novak is a weapon just as Chuck is. The coach knows his arsenal, he's spent a year with it. Second guessing is your right, but at least do it logically. Brooks did really well last night, I thought. There were a couple of times defensively I think he went for a steal and let an easy bucket up, but overall he was solid.
I like Chuck. But you know there must be a reason that all these players you listed get better pays than Chuck, right? And I think the reason is they can play O.
It is because their offense is overrated my friend. How many of those players would you want chewing up salary cap on the Rox?
Maybe none. But still Chuck sucks at O. It is a matter of fact and he needs to work on it. Nobody is hating Chuck and we are just trying to point out the obvious. It is like saying "Yao is great but he is slow".
hayes, in terms of production per cent, is better than tracy. not saying tracy is bad, but saying hayes contract is very very good, and it is nice to have an underpaid pf, after... those... horid... years...
answer me this one question: would a championship contender (top 2 teams in the nba) have chuck hayes in their starting lineup? as their 6th man? in their bench? in their reserve? no. you can be as idealistic as possible, and keep thinking that chuck hayes is a "top 10 defender in the nba"- but he is not, under any circumstance a player you would want playing in the nba finals for your team. his offense hinders a team more than his defense gives.
This logic is deeply flawed. You can't put 15 Chucks on court at the same time. Even if you can, the production of these 15 Chucks won't be Hayes's production multiplied by 15.
Aldridge was 3 for 8 against Scola when Chuck replaced him...remind me again how that is kicking his arse? DD
You don't know what you are talking about. A championship would LOVE to have Chuck Hayes coming off the bench for $2 million as a situational player.
I agree. But Hayes drives me nuts when he throws up a little awkward reverse layup instead of throwing it down. He is 6-6...DUNK IT!
No, it's obvious Hayes cant dunk. Hayes needs at least 2 steps in order to elevate enuff to reach the rim.
Good post, man. I definitely agree with your statement, but I think RA doesn't want to decrease any chances at all with getting into the playoffs as we are only in 6th place and can drop very easily. They're obviously only rookies so we can't rely on them as they don't have the experience that the starters bring. I think the best thing to do is give Harris a little more time for Landry, as he is still recuperating from his injury.
