It's a give and take. His strength is his speed and quickness. Putting on some muscle would slow him down. I don't think the loss in speed would be made up by any other attributes worthwhile. Thats why I say keep him lean and skinny and quick.
gaining some muscle or strength doesnt necessarily mean he'll slow down...obviously 10-15 pounds would weigh him down, but he can still gain some strength without bulking up much. 5-7 pounds more wouldn't hurt or slow him down if he puts them on fairly evenly. It'll help him absorb some contact inside, which he tries to avoid right now..
If youve ever played basketball, you would know that intense weight lifting screws with your shot real bad.
this is not true. Sure - maybe for a day or when you first come out to practice, but in the long run it can improve it dramatically. A lot of people don't realize all the muscles your body uses to take a good jump shot. Pretty much every single one from your calves to your forearms.
I gained 25 lb since summer started, and id say 15 lb of muscle, and my shot is STILL GOOD! ITS STILL GOOD!
it varies, from player to player to training program to training program. Some players will benefit, some won't see a difference, some may be hurt by it. Mainly it depends on how you're putting on that weight, how much, and what else you're doing.
When was Brooks covering Miller? I can't recall for sure but it seems like it was somebody else covering him most of the game, whether it be Battier or Lowry or somebody else. Even if Brooks was covering him at some point, I don't seem to recall him being the one doing so during Miller's run. I may be wrong.
IMO Brooks should incorporate more of a mid range game. Kind of like what Earl Boykins use to do. Boykins was money from that area. Also a little size never hurt anyone. In my personal experience I felt that my shooting form has gotten better with weight lifting. Brooks is already one of the quickest points in the league, so I don't think it would slow him down too much.
if brooks utilizes a step back move when he drive to the basket nobody is going to be able to stay with him leaving him open.
LaMarcus Aldridge knows this first hand. I believe McMillan had to call a timeout in that play-off game last year to recover LA's laundry.
Sure, AB can bulk NEXT season. But right now, he just needs to stay healthy and keep playing games. He is one of our best offensive weapons and we don't need anything screwing him up to badly at this point.
I played d-1 and i don't ever recall it screwing my shot up. You shoot it off as they say after lifting and in the nba, those guys lift almost everyday to maintain strength for a full season. Brooks needs to get stronger for sure, but that doesn't mean he has to get bulky. Look at iverson as a example of a small, strong guy. Its maturation and maybe next time he will get the step and pull a jimmy.
if anything he should just work on gettin even stronger legs to get stregnth to hold ppl from posting him up, that wont affect his speed much if he trains them for speed as well. upper body is totally diff story, if he bulks he will def lose some quickness and thats what hes good for, we dont want a strong man like lowry we already have that. hes situational and if he loses his speed he loses his edge
Uh oh....there's the first problem. Uh, not sure him bulking up would help those last second shots where somebody's holding his arm or hits him. While we're here, we ought to seriously have a talk about him growing a couple inches...
