Derrick Rose abused Rafer Alston as well last week for 22 points and a Bulls win. Rafer 4-12 from the field, 0-3 3pters. Announcers said the key for Rose was for him to NOT always defer, that it was okay for him turn it on and get out the facilitator role. Brooks doesnt have the same ability but that same message can be passed onto Brooks.
No question Brooks is a "shot first" Pg. So was Mike Bibby. Tony Parker. Mo Williams. Devin Harris. Jameer Nelson. Gilbert Arenas. Randy Foye. These are all shoot first PGs. Even Derek Fisher. And I wouldn't have a problem if we had any of them. You don't need a traditional pass first PG to win a championship, especially in Adelman's system. As a matter of fact who was the last pass first PG to win a championship? No doubt Brooks is a little inexperienced. He is young, and we've thrown him to the wolves(literally tonight). He'll learn, and he'll get better. He has 10 years to get to where Rafer is at. With that said, he just put up 22 and 10 with 1 TO tonight. When was the last time Rafer did that?
This isn't Adelman's system bruh.We don't run the traditional princeton system. In Sacramento everything was run at the high post,There were back cuts, under the basket screens, double screen curls etc etc etc. There were so many things that they ran in sacramento. We are running only a fraction of adelman's offense. We have a 7'6 dominant low post player. We don't have peja and mike bibby, hedo, bobby jackson. We play our best basketball when Yao is the focal point.Brooks to be succesful in playing with Yao will have to find a way to get Yao the basketball in the post.
It's not about whether he is "shoot first" or "pass first." It's about his decision-making and poise. He was not able to control the offense under pressure in the Chicago game. He looked panicky and indecisive. It was probably due to his inexperience. And that's exactly what the thread is about -- Inexperience. Hopefully he'll learn and learn fast. When Rafer got traded, a lot of people automatically believed we would be a better team with Brooks starting. There's a reason why Rafer was the starter and Brooks came off the bench, as bad as a shooter Rafer was. Brooks is wildly inconsistent at this point of his career and he doesn't seem to be very poise when things aren't going well.
I just finished doing the numbers on Rafer Alston vs. Aaron Brooks' stats and they are not much different. The numbers are based on the last 6 six games that Brooks has started since Alston was traded and Alston's statistics for the year with the Rockets. Player___MPG__PPG__FG%__3P%__FT%__AST__T.O.__REB__STL Alston___31.1__11.5__.370__.348__.789__5.4__1.83__3.0__1.2 Brooks__31.0__13.2__.336__.372__.845__6.2__1.83__4.0__1.2 The FG% numbers are a little disturbing since we were supposed to be upgrading but the increased AST-T.O. Ratio and Rebounding is promising.
