Ok...that's an entirely irrelevant point...especially since we lost the series. We're talking about the Portland series.
Brooks is practically the franchise player this season, and look where the Rockets are in the standings. This idea of making him the main player should never even be considered unless Mr. Alexander would want to wallow in mediocrity. I still insist that, to be a championship contender, the Rockets need to upgrade the PG position. Brooks is not a championship level PG both in his mentality and overall game.
everytime? It was once, and that was the crappiest game the rockets have ever played, they all shot the ball abysmally. And head to head doesn't mean crap anyways.
Not really, we were one game away from winning. I agree that the only thing that matters is if you win or not, but since this is about brooks's development I think it shows that he has been improving at a great rate and hopefully will continue to do so.
If I remember correctly he had 2-3 amazing games but was taken out of his game with the fronting later on, game 1 being the best in which he was 12/12 or something from the field. In that respect it is true that he is the number one thread but portland changed their defensive scheme on him but still were not able to stop brooks from manhandling blake.
There have been quite a few games where Brooks has put up solid numbers while his opponent has put up better numbers.
Yes, Brooks took advantage of Blake. And that happened b/c Portland's help defense was geared towards stopping Yao b/c in their eyes, Yao was a bigger threat than Brooks.
Exactly. Yao annihlated the Blazers in Game 1, and the Blazers were forced to front/double team Yao the rest of the series, leaving Scola wide open and no one to help Blake as Brooks was owning him, and the two killed Portland. But Portland had no choice otherwise Yao would kill them.
Rose is not a good defender. And he's not qualified as a great shooter, yet. I agree his ceilings are much higher than Brooks'.
true, but his opponents also have the benefit of having other offensive options for all the games brooks played without martin which were most of the times he fell short offensively.
Valid point but that doesn't change much for AB, scola is the one that benefited off of that. Brooks can drive past his man and nobody can stay in front of him, as you see him still putting up big numbers this year Yao had a big impact, but a wing type player is someone he really benefits from because he is such a good shooter. He can still put up big numbers without an open path to the basket.
When the defense is forced out of position, then everyone on the offense benefits. If Brooks gets past Blake, help defenders are out of position b/c they were focused on Yao.
He's still the best PG we've got. Perimeter players that are good enough to build around don't grow on trees and their teams aren't giving them up. It's not like the Rockets doesn't know they need a franchise player, they just don't have a better option yet. Plus Brooks is not on this task alone, we could be a more team-oriented team next season after Yao returns. I'm forseeing an awesome trio of Yao-Brooks-Martin. There's not really a franchise type player on this team, but are we good enough to be a contender? I think so. Championship? I'm not sure but one can dream. As long as the Rockets are winning Im happy and I could care less about who's the 1st option.
AB initiates the play, and he either shoots or passes, he makes the decision. It could be Yao, it could be Martin, it could be AB, it could be Scola, but one of them should get an open shot based upon the offense that AB creates. DD
Brooks is not a Franchise player. He's a trade bait player. And he cost us going deep in the lottery by helping us win meaningless games.
