is this the old "I don't understand the concept of efficiency/per minute stats are worthless" argument from leebigez again?

He's definitely owning all right. Owning himself back to 2nd grade when we learned how to do long division and multiplication.

Yes, a big man can impact the game in more ways that scoring, but if the big man has the most polished offensive game in the league (compared to other big men), it must be exploited.

And in regards to coming back strong, I feel that he either comes back strong or retires. Either the integrity of his bones holds up or it doesn't. His greatest advantages are his height and his shooting ability, and neither of those were affected by his injury.

Yes, he has a huge defensive impact. What's your point?

He may set good picks, but that's a poor way to use him. He doesn't have the speed or mobility to roll to the basket nor does he have a consistent outside jumper.

He's a poor offensive rebounder. Because he's so big, he lacks mobility and agility. He can grab rebounds if they come to him, but anyone can beat him to loose balls.

He didn't do it b/c he didn't have a roster that complemented him. Traditional big men such as Yao are most effective when surrounded by good 3 point shooters. It keeps the defense honest.

They didn't complement each other. McGrady preferred the pick and roll, and as I explained earlier, Yao is not the ideal player to set the pick. Yao needs proper spacing which can be achieved through solid 3 point shooters. What did McGrady shoot in his last relatively healthy season? 30%?

So no, they didn't complement each other.

Theoretically, a fronting defense leaves the basket unprotected. If the post entry passer is capable of attacking the unprotected rim, it'll prevent the defense from trying to front Yao. Martin and possibly Lowry are capable of this.

When was the last time McGrady consistently attacked the rim? 2004? Like I said, McGrady and Yao didn't complement each other.

This problem will take care of itself due to his decreased minutes.

I would be very surprised if they didn't. If you have a mismatch, you exploit it. That's basic basketball, and Yao is a walking mismatch.

Do you have any common sense at all? Play a faster pace doesn't mean better offense because while your possessions increased, opponents possessions are increased as well.

Let's say you play the same defense, but possessions increased, if you fewer score points PER POSSESSION, yet opponents scores same points per POSSESSION, you are losing ground, and it is because your offense becomes less efficient, in other words, becomes worse.

So when I was the person who compared with AB and got called out, but when I respond, I become "ho among women"?

How about I say any user's Moniker ends with "bigez" is an idiot, and you come to protest, then I apply the same logic and you become the "ho among women"? That doesn't sound right to you, I guess?

You need some serious logic lessons, man.

Not at the expense of the offense that you have inserted and the team is getting really good at.

Not if the other team is absolutely insisting that you aren't going to get the ball to the big fella without some nice magic tricks.

Put the other team in a position to choose how you beat them. You have multiple ways of doing it. Why would you limit your options based on who is in the game?

if we learned one thing from all the injuries it's that we need to run adelman's offense to maximize scoring efficiency. however, running an offense through yao doesn't necessarily mean we are relying on him to score the bulk of the points. it could also mean him playing point center at times and finding the open cutter or spot up shooter or setting screens etc. anyway i thought it was already decided that yao needed to be eased in and given limited minutes.

AB is our best player, even when Yao returns.

While that's probably a lot of what we will see next year, folks will still whine that the Rockets aren't using Yao properly in the low block like JVG did.

Best triple threat, but Martin is certainly more efficient. I like having options. Makes the other team have to actually choose who they want to let beat them.

Disagree. You go with your most effective offense with whatever roster is on the court. If Yao is on the court, chances are he has an advantage against his defender.

How can they prevent Yao from getting the ball? Premature double teams? Great. That leaves one of the other Rockets open for a shot.

Establishing Yao as an offensive threat will force the defense to adjust which will make them vulnerable in other areas. You then exploit these new vulnerabilities.

JVG's way of using Yao isn't bad even in RA's system when Rafer is replace by AB, who can absolutely kill without being guarded on 3 point line. Give a dominant Shaq to RA I don't think RA should play him like Divac. I'm not saying Yao is as dominant as Shaq, but it's the same concept.

It all depends on how Yao plays when he comes back. If Yao can't play back to near his old standards under the basket, I don't think many guys will complain.

Ah. There is a difference in folks wanting Yao to get the ball down low at all costs and using Yao down low to force the defense to do something stupid and end up giving you an easy shot by another player. Either let Yao go to work, or risk Hill, Scola, Ariza, Martin, etc slipping to the bucket for an easy one.

    What's a better offensive performance.....shooting 5-15 and scoring 10 points or shooting 4-7 and scoring 8 points?

It all depends on how Yao plays. But one thing is certain: AB's impact would never reach Yao's impact last year.

AB is the only player we have right now that I have seen defenses obviously gameplanning for and contorting themselves to stop him. He's the only one who ever draws a double team outside of the paint... teams have been working hard to stop him, and he still burns them even better than he did earlier in the season.

agreed, but i'm not counting Scola out just yet. defenses will have to pick their poison. Martin, AB, Yao, Scola. like Yao said before. he is gonna be like a rookie coming into this squad. and that will be fun to watch if it's anything like his actual rookie year. tricky passes to backdoor cutters, screens, midrange jumpers, blocking shaq. man... tinman where are the vids from your vault.

That game 1 vs the Lakers where both players were huge is ideally where we would find ourselves next year. Aaron has obviously improved, but Yao remains to be seen. Since he was supposedly playing hurt at the time, I don't think it's too unreasonable to expect something similar to that from him. 18 and 8 on 25-28 minutes would be very welcome.

I've been through this argument so many times.

Do i think AB is a franchise player? No not really, depends on what you think a franchise player is, he is not a Kobe, Lebron, CP3, etc...

What he is though, is one heck of a player and all star caliber guard.

I think him starting is the greatest thing that could have ever happened, starting from last season. This team was going nowhere with Rafer, and It was a huge sigh of relief to have a competent player with a full offensive arsenal that can break down the defense.

Some people hate brooks reasons that seem foolish.

if anything has been seen this year, its how much he impacts the floor defensively.

The problem is that he clogs up that paint on offense and I don't like the strategy of force feeding him.

Run the offense through the high post, playing our style, and switch to the halfcourt set when needed.

No doubt AB improved a lot offensively. But he's still far from a franchise player. Saying AB is the best player on Rockets right now doesn't mean much, it's just like saying somebody has the longest dick among all the people in the world with a dick of 2 inch or shorter.

choujie, i can guarantee you that if the rockets made the trade earlier, they would not killed the ppg from last yr,but your precious ptsperposs you want to bring. Yao is like drew bledsoe and kerry collins. If the pocket is clean, have 2 good wr's and a good running game, they can play well. There are just too many factors to be a successful offense when you try to focus around yao.Top that off, he hasnt even shown he can stay healthy or dominate for long stretches to justify the adjustment. its easy to adjust for greatness, you dont adjust for good. You dont see jackson adjusting the offense for bynum like they did shaq.If adelman had a dream in his prime, i guarantwe you the offense would be totally different than the offense he had with sacramento. Again, you adjust for greatness.
