AAA offers free tow to drunk drivers (even non-members)

Here are some links detailing the program in each area. (If you have more links, please leave a comment and I'll update the list.)

* Southern California - up to 7 miles. 1-800-400-4AAA
* Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Lawton and Norman - 15 miles, 1-800-AAA-HELP
* Texas - 10 miles, 1-800-AAA-HELP
* Northern California, Utah, Nevada - 5 miles, 1-800-AAA-HELP

Here is how it works:

-- Drivers, holiday hosts and bartenders dial AAA Texas' toll free number
at 1-800-AAA-HELP or 1-800-222-4357 to request the Tipsy Tow service.

-- AAA Texas dispatches a tow truck and;

-- The driver is driven -- and the vehicle towed -- home for free up to 10 miles.

Callers should keep in mind that the destination is limited to the driver's residence. Reservations are not accepted. Drivers can expect to pay the rate charged by the tow truck contractor for rides farther than ten miles.

"We recommend motorists have a designated driver if they plan on drinking," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "However, if that is not possible, we suggest motorists utilize our Tipsy Tow service."

Tipsy Tow is a public service offered by AAA Texas throughout the state of Texas.

AAA Texas, a member of the American Automobile Association federation of motor clubs, has been serving Texans since 1902. Today, more than a million AAA Texas members benefit from the organization's roadside assistance service, travel agency, financial products, automotive pricing, buying and financing, trip planning services, and traffic safety programs. Ha ha, a word of wisdom for sure. But for some reason, I'm not very wise around holiday season. If you had to spend as much time with my extended family as I've had to do lately, you'd be drinking up a storm too!

Do they tow cars for people who aren't drunk? If so, I've always wanted to sit in the back of my car while it is being towed. That would kind of be like driving but without any hands.

You could always pretend to be drunk, that is, if you can live with the idea that some poor soul who really needed a ride is now not getting one because of your weird no-hands-driving fetish.
