speaking of great playersrs, albeit slightly unrelated, I am looking at larry birds stats and why isn't this guy among the greatest of all time conversation?

He averaged 25+ppg, almost 10 rebounds, and about 7 assists, with almost 2 steals, and one block with very little athleticism, He wasn't a lebron type stats guy, he won 3 champiionships and was constantly clutch too.

I saw him at the game tonight and looked up his bio and stats and it just hit me, this guy needs to be in the convo

That's dumb, 1 vs 1 drills are actually really useful. It helps with individual defense, help develop conditioning, and it is a great way to improve playing in the post.

You see centers running one one vs one drills all the time in the post.

    What's more dumb?

The fact that I clearly said it isn't useless or the fact that you still said I think it's useless?

You pretty much said 1 vs 1 drill is as useful as a layup drill.

False. He was using the lay-up drill example as an analogy to make a point. He never stated that the two were equivalent in usefulness.

that is the thing, I think everyone should've been able to take bird 1-1, he had height, but that is about it. His stregnth, speed, athleticism overall were all average at best. This guy was just all skill, brains, and awareness and for him to dominate the league like he did, its almost more impressive than Mj, Kobe,or any of these guys come to think of it.

If by one-on-one, one means being able to score on someone on an iso play or simply before the help defense can react, then HELL YES it's a measurement of greatness.

You can see this at work in Shaq backing someone down, LBJ bulldozing to the rim, AI crossing and laying it in, Kobe rising up/away for J, etc etc. IF basketball was meant to be purely about passing, why allow dribbling in the first place?

And as for Kobe's statement, LOL that guy never changes...true competitor through and through

Rashad McCants and Gerald Green can probably still beat 90% of the NBA 1 on 1. Gotta do other things, though
