its not specifically 'black gangs', but here in austin there has been a few of what they call 'punch and runs' - there are groups of people running around assaulting people as they come out of bars in the 6th st. area - just jump some random person and take off - a kid actually died last year after he hit his head on the sidewalk after getting sucker-punched. not gang/race related, but a couple anecdotes of regarding where our society is going...society is just getting more violent and in alot of cases its just totally random. a friend of a friend also got the beat so bad that he had to have several thousands dollars worth of reconstructive surgery on his face after some drunk girl fell down in the street infront of spiros and he went to help her up and her boyfriend attacked him from behind. another friend of a friend was attacked walking on barton springs drive at about 2am by 4 baseball bat wielding guys - they would have beaten him to death if a truck didnt drive up and start honking, forcing them to run away. these guys were white frat-boy looking types.
Yes just think what it was like for Black folks the entire rest of the history of our nation. It's true that sharing power, or just changing the face of power makes some people a little extra sensitive.

How would one be found innocent vs. guilty of a crime based on "hate" motivations? If someone beats me up for being a nicely dressed man versus beating me up for being a minority - what's the difference? The judge can have some leeway in taking a convicted felon motivations as a factor into sentencing, i just don't see the value of a jury designating something as a hate crime outside of tracking hate activity. How about teaching kids about hate at a young age...do something that actually cuts down on crimes motivated by hate.

Yet you complain about others playing the race card, when you played it yourself. Just look at the post where you accuse blacks of voting for Obama because he's black. Do you think blacks aren't capable of looking at issues and deciding who they vote for? Whites also voted for Obama, but it was only the blacks that did because of race huh?

I think you missed the point, they would be found innocent of obvious violence so this was put in place to find them guilt of something by the federal gov't instead of state crimes when jurors would let them go. I think

the point I was making was that the original hate crime legislation was a federal crime, and it wouldn't be subject to going to a jury to avoid whites letting off whites for violence against blacks. i think
I think that is correct in part. I was watching someone the other day on the history channel and they said a lot of the convictions they got at the federal level were for "violating civil right." They got murderers for like 10 years in prison, but they thought that was better than nothing at all which was the case at the local level.
It's a part of this thread because you derided my post talking about this thread being nothing more than another opportunity for people who intentionally ignore the historically devastating effects of white racism in favor of highlighting the few instances of black racism. Why is this the first time I'm heard about it? If there were gangs of 20 white people beating up random black people, it would be all over national media. It's more wrong for whites to beat up blacks than the other way around? Either way, Denver is still a really nice city, I loved it there... Just stay out of east Denver, lol.

Actually because it works one way doesn't mean the opposite is also true. The people who hate Obama hate him because of made up crap, like him not being a citizen, being a marxist socialist, Hitler like leader, who is building secret internment camps, etc. However when you are crying because Obama one and don't believe blacks look at issues when they voted for president but others did, then you played the race card. I never said black on white racism wasn't important, just that consequences weren't as major.
