Completely agree. I never understood the necessity for the term "hate" crime. Isn't any act of violence because of hate, regardless if it was racially motivated or not?
I agree with you on the semantics, but hate crime legislation is there to protect members of historically abused groups from being targeted simply because they are a member of that group. Basically, it is a further punishment because of the motivation of the crime, whether it be racism, homophobia, or some other socially deviant hatred.
I think the federal gov't first enacted hate crime legislation to punish people whom otherwise might not be found guilty by a jury of their peers. I think
That's ridiculous. There's nothing to debate about this story. It's a disgusting crime, the people should be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and that's that. What else is this story other than an opportunity for the bigtexx's and rhino17's of the world to discuss their racial agenda?
You might be right on that but wouldn't the hate crime also be tried by a jury of peers who might not be willing to convict one of their own?
It's called the Debate and Discussion Forum... This story is a little heavy for the Hangout, don't you think? LOL, yeah I'm sure that's exactly how it would go down.
lol nice attempt at diversion. You've really been called out in this thread. Sounds like you're the one with the agenda...
Ignoring racisim from anyone should not be acceptable in the eyes of the law, regardless of any one race's past treatment or current socio-economic status. Ignoring it only compounds and extends the overall problem. I know this is the D&D, but why turn this into something political. Rather than discussing and addressing the issue, you'd rather point fingers. You should look in the mirror and inspect your own disorders.
If he chose to take my advice and went to downtown Denver with a gun, specifically looking for these people, it would be vigilante justice. If he happened to already be in downtown Denver with a gun and ended up shooting someone who attacked him, I would not deride him at all.
I can agree that it would be pretty stupid to go looking for trouble. I have a CHL and still try to avoid dangerous situations.
