Poston is demanding that the Redskins pay the #2 pick in the NFL draft as though he were #1. Makes sense when you think about it -- after smoking five pounds of weed. We might as well negotiate with Osama bin Laden. Here's the article: http://washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A60319-2000Jul6.html Excerpt: Contract talks between the Washington Redskins and representatives for rookie linebacker LaVar Arrington are focusing on a philosophical difference about whether Arrington should be treated as the No. 1 or No. 2 selection in April's college draft. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Arrington's agents are arguing he should be compensated as the first overall selection in the draft, although the Redskins chose him second, behind defensive end Courtney Brown. As such, Arrington's representatives are seeking a signing bonus of roughly $11.4 million--compared to the roughly $10 million bonus the Cleveland Browns paid Brown, sources said. ... Redskins director of player development Joe Mendes yesterday remained in Houston, where he is meeting with Carl C. Poston, Arrington's primary agent.
I think whats happening hear is that the agent is seing the huge signing bonuses that the owner,Dan Snyder, is giving many players. Mr. Snyder is very loose with his money and he want to win now. So, the agent wants to capitalize. Probably, the agent is not really crazy. P.S., the 2 pick, Arrington, is so close in skill to the 1 pick, Brown, the pick was probably decided by a coin toss. ------------------ Starting at shortstop, for the Houston Astros, Nomar Garciaparra.
