The Bush Administration and it was in 2006. Rumsfeld left in 2006 after the order for the F-22 was cut by more than half. Quit blaming Obama when the plane had been ridiculed for years and multiple administrations. Yes his administration finally killed it after it had been dying a slow death for years. The F-35 readiness is still better than the f-22's was

F-35 readiness is worse than F-22.

Obama killed it, he gets the blame. That's how this works.

I bet you do. Our kids are grown, one a lead software developer, the other working in computer animation. I'm hoping sanity prevails, but their skills could translate to a military setting. How I hope it doesn't come to that. Thank goodness for young Americans like your son. Our volunteer military is truly remarkable because of citizens like him.

"Therefore they suck. I don't care how awesome something is if it is unusable 60% of the time."

So the thing you said sucks is better than the thing that replaced it on the exact metric you gave. I linked the latest CBO report and it compares the two.

Just saw a 12 minute video from a source I have some respect for and thought of your son. It's about a new extended range anti-radiation missile designed to be carried by the F-35 that is a game changer. Your son may know about it already, but if not, it's very interesting. Spoilered below.

It compared the availability by age of the F-35A to the F-22. Look at the first chart showing availability of ALL F-35 variants by year.

This has been discussed in several threads already but yes war agains the PRC would be unlike any other conflict given their size and capabilities. It’s also going to be very bloody and damaging for the PRC.

The PRC does have the advantage initially but Taiwan is much more difficult to invade than Ukraine given it’s across the water and it’s mountainous with deep ravines and forests. Taipei alone would be very difficult to take.

The bigger issue though is the damage to the PRC and the global economy. The PRC economy has a lot of problems now and is he ability of the PRC to continue an upward improvement in living standards is far from guaranteed. It’s doubtful whether most of the Chinese people will be willing to “eat bitterness” for a protracted period of time to take Taiwan and to fight for the prestige of the CCP against the Western imperialists. It’s been almost 50 years since the Cultural Revolution and few alive remember the Century of Humiliation.

Invest in"defense" stocks. There will be a killing to be made if we can avoid ending civilization.

China hasn't proven sh*t on the battlefield. I don't think they have what it takes to win a war.

China is certainly not Russia, but it also isn't the USA.

Having said that, it doesn't mean that China cannot do massive harm to the USA and the rest of the world.

If the USA and China actually go to war, stock investments won't mean a damn thing.... money won't either.

This. The war and its devastation will be one thing but the economic impact would be horrendous. We are too interconnected.
