He became the Grizzlies’ all-time assists leader on Nov. 14 at Seattle with seven assists, finishing his Memphis career with 2041 assists. Through four seasons with Memphis, he averaged 11.9 points, 7.2 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 30.7 minutes in 284 games. The five-team trade is subject to all players passing team physicals.
Man... If this goes through, and it prolly will. The Heat are going to the Finals next year, guaranteed. Rockets/Heat finals. Put your money down.
espn news is reporting the deal as done http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-five-teamtrade&prov=ap&type=lgns from yahoo sports Largest trade in NBA history sends Antoine Walker to Miami By TIM REYNOLDS, AP Sports Writer August 2, 2005 MIAMI (AP) -- In the largest trade in NBA history, Antoine Walker was dealt from Boston to Miami on Tuesday night in a transaction involving five teams and 13 players. The Heat also acquired point guard Jason Williams and small forward James Posey from Memphis, while the Grizzlies received guard Eddie Jones from the Heat. The New Orleans Hornets and Utah Jazz were also involved in the deal. The trade was larger than a 12-player, four-team deal in 2000 involving Patrick Ewing that had been the biggest in league history. Miami also received Andre Emmett from Memphis and the draft rights to Roberto Duenas of Spain from the Hornets; Utah received Greg Ostertag from Memphis; Boston picked up Curtis Borchardt from Utah and a package -- Qyntel Woods, the draft rights to Spanish center Albert Miralles, two second-round draft picks and cash -- from Miami; New Orleans acquired Rasual Butler from Miami and Kirk Snyder from Utah; and the Grizzlies received guard Raul Lopez from the Jazz.
At first I thought Walker was going to come off the bench at the 3/4 spots, but apparently he's going to sign a 6 year 53 million dollar deal so there's no way he's coming off the bench and there's no way Haslem comes off the bench with his new deal so he has to be the Heat's new starting SF with Posey coming off the bench. PG - Williams SG - Wade SF - Walker PF - Haslem C - Shaq
one hilarious aspect to the trade is ostertag going back to utah. they just can't separate themselves from each other, no matter how much he and sloan don't like each other.
So basically, the heat traded Eddie Jones, Rasual Butler, Qyntel Woods, and two 2nd round draft choices for Jason WIlliams, James Posey, and Antoine Walker? That sounds like a good deal to me.
That Miami team is going to be something to watch next year...they have what they need to go all the way, but they'll have to keep Williams and Walker under control to make it happen. These two can either make or break the team IMO. If they understand their role and play within the offense it gives the Heat too many weapons to stop.
something that will be hard to overlook though is if all three newly acquired players for the heat start is how will the chemistry work out? Haslem should be the starting pf but there is no way Walker will want to be coming off the bench. How will Haslem take to going back to the bench now? At least posey can slip in at the 3 spot will EJ gone to the grizz. But what about damon jones now? He came on strong at the end of the season and the way he acted it seems to have gotten to his head. Both Jason Williams and him are accostomed to starting who is going to start? that said you may see a slow(er) start than expected but if this heat team can gel by the all-star break i dont see anything really stopping them outside of injuries. I wonder if SVG can make walker into a half decent defensive pf
OMG! This blows away anything any other team has done in the off season so far! That's not good news at all for the Rockets or any other team with championship aspirations. Shaq, Walker, Posey, Wade, and J.Williams as a starting lineup? That's scary, very scary.
IMO, the Heat are going to be a juggernaut. Their starting five will/should be williams wade walker haslem shaq that is damn impressive ....and its not like their bench is thin or anything, they'll have posey, jones (assuming he resigns, which isnt a given), and mourning. that's a hell of a 8 man rotation now we'll see if Riley stays upstairs or decides to get back on the bench and coach
i'm gonna reserve judgement right now, cuz chemistry seems like it could be a problem with that heat team.
The Heat have indeed increased their ego quotient, but with Shaq's style of ....ahem...leadership I'm sure all will fall in line. For some reason this deal seems rather fishy....
You and me both but I think I'm just in shock and denial how good the Heat just got. Fathoming a chemistry problem is the only hope.
WOW!!! PG - Williams SG - Wade SF - Walker PF - Haslem C - Shaq Posey, Laetnar, Doleac, S. Smith, Zo, D Wright(HS kid last yr), Shandon Anderson. Now how in the world they could afford all that salaries, but the Rockets cant. Miami, who went to the Game 7 of EC Finals, just got ALOTTTTT better TALENTWISE. We will have to see how the chemistry works out. Only signicant player they lost were E. Jones (downside of his career) and maybe D JOnes since there they wont give him what D JOne is asking for. Y in the world we couldnt trade for Posey even though Grizz are in our same Conference. Grizz need relief and we have expiring contracts. Miami robbed this deal by far. Even with Shaq breaking down, D Wade just receive alot and dont have to carry the offense like he did last season. J Posey and SA are pretty good defensive players along with Zo. Offense and defense WOW...... I cant see Detroit beating Miami w/o Larry Brown. CD better try to get D Stoudamire and Miles (dun knoe y Portland still wants him with Outlaw) or Outlaw (highly doubt). Then sign Jay Williams and see what he gots and Finley, A Houston, or J Rose if released.
Looks like a good deal for the Heats...not sure what the Logo is doing. How does Memphis benefit from any of this?
Eastern Conference is definitely coming back. Miami, Detroit, Indiana, New Jersey is a very impressive top four.
