KT shot 48% from the field last season and 45% for his career. I don't know where you are getting 40% from but it is wrong. KT also avg'd 14 points a game along with over 7 rebounds and 1 block, 1 steal and 2 assists a game. Those are not Chris Webber numbers but they are solid.
Try 48% 47.8% to be precise. I think you're looking at his first season stats, which in no way represents what he is capable of now. He was one of the most improved players in the league this past season.
Remember when Cuttino was a FA? Toronto's bid was higher but he chose Houston. Perhaps NIKE can help me out with this one.
Good work Gater, the deal looks really cap freindly for a team that is on the cusp of an anuall play off apearance.
Oh, then I can understand it. But let's say Houston had enough money to match Toronto's bid. In that case Mobley wouldn't have had a choice, correct? Provided that Houston was willing to spend that much in order to match the offer. Edit: Nevermind, I understand it now. Thanks for the help.
For accuracy's sake, Cuttino never signed Toronto's bid, so technically Toronto never had a big. Restricted free agents ARE NOT auction items; they're restricted because the team the hail from has the final say if they're able to go. They can not be forced to a new team, however their original team can keep them against their will (see Marc Jackson). GATER-They run into the big problems the following year-Dooling, Richardson, and Miles. Miles probably becomes a max player, and Richardson is pretty near. Another variable is Marko Jaric-he could add another 3 mill per year. I can also nearly guarantee you that the Clips won't keep Maggette for just the QO of ~2.5 mill-the guy scored double figures off the bench last year, is a very good defender, and has athleticism and potential out the wazoo. They'll either pay up, or lose him.
GATER/NIKE Do you really see Sterling spending all that $$$$. Somehow that does not seem to be his M.O. He seems more interested in a team that just makes money for him. I don't really get the sense that he is interested winning the show. Gater, Where did you get all the salary numbers....excellent!!!
Wow, a trade where we get a starting 3 and all we have to give up is our 3rd string 4, our third string 5 and our second string 3 (who actually is the third string if you consider the Rocks go 3-guard before they put him in) and a draft pick that the Rockets wish Memphis would take off their hands. That does sound like it's fair for everyone j
First of all, good trade idea. But I don't think it would work. The Clippers are going to have to shell out max bucks for Elton Brand and Andre Miller. Sooner down the road they will have to pay up Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles. The Cavs also get too many draft picks for one season.
Doc Rocket said KT isn't going anywhere. But you did come up with a great trade proposal, crash. Me, I wonder if maybe we're gonna take the Bulls by the balls. OK, we didn't screw you over Jay Williams, but we sure could've. So: once you have your cap room, you won't be needing Jamal Crawford anymore. Maybe Moochie to the Bulls, take away the Drew obligation, Crawford to the Cavaliers for the #6 draft pick (looks like we're after Nene or Wilcox). Maybe even send Cato or Mo to the Bulls. Hey, it's a stretch of sorts, but Doc's "I can't tell you why we're not trading KT" makes me think one of our frontcourt players will soon be gone. I think you're on the right track with that #6 pick.
1. If the Clipps are not willing to shell out the bucks for a top notch point guard then why did they try to attain Baron Davis. Baron will cost them just as much as Andre Miller. And with this trade they actually loose what is soon to become a high priced salery with Lamar Odom. 2. Just because the Cavs have 4 picks in the top 15 does not mean that they have to use all of them on Rookies this year. There are teams that may be willing to move down or teams that do not have a 1st round pick that might have something the Cavs want to aquire one. Don't forget the Nets took on 3 1st round picks last summer so taking multiple 1st round picks are not unheard of.
Ok, it seems like the two big concerns on this deal are as follows... 1. Would the Clipps give Andre Miller the max? 2. Would the Cavs really want this many rookies/draft picks which may be difficult to sell to the fans? I am still not convinced that #1 is a yes, but lets say hypothetically it is. If you are in the Rockets camp, would you be willing to do this to rectify question #2? Remember the whole basis of my Anti-Ming argument was that I didnt think Ming and Griffin together would provide the defensive toughness inside for this Rockets team to go to the next level. Also, I had said that I didnt think Griffin could pull off the type of return in a deal the #1 could ie Odom, 8, 12. Well, how about this variation of the deal.... Rockets get: Lamar Odom, 8, 12 Clippers get: Andre Miller, Terence Morris, Jason Collier Cavs get: Eddie Griffin, 15 This would enable the Rockets to land Ming and Hilario plus Odom along with whoever they want at 12 (Amare Stoudamire?). If Yao had a banger like Hilario playing next to him, I would be much more ok with the interior toughness on this team, and I would be ok with losing Griffin's skill game b/c Mo Taylor would be the ideal complement to someone like Hilario.
One thing I would like to add.... If the Rockets are able to get this kind of return in a swap for Eddie Griffin, it wouldnt matter at all whether or not it took Yao time to develop. A team with Francis, Mobley, Odom, Taylor, Cato in the SL along with a developing Ming and Moochie, KT, Rice, draft picks etc off the bench would be good enough to make the playoffs. This team would only get better and better as Ming develops and whoever they add through the additional picks becomes into the interior defensive force they want. Also, the Rockets could simply use one of the two picks and send the other to Memphis. The Grizz may be more likely to take a pick in the lottery as opposed to pick 15.
Possible scenarios with the 4 high number 1 draft picks: 1st. Trade 12 and 8 to move up to Positions 5 or 4. Draft Tsiki at 4, Wagner at 6 and Kareem Rush at 15. Use your second round pick on a Euro project like Nenad Krstic. Let Tsiki spend the year in Europe and Krstic spend the next couple of years in Europe. Now they have a back court of Wagner and Rush with guaranteed contracts and a possible superstar in Tsiki that will not get a contract until next year and another in Krstic that is a couple of years away. 2002 line up: Wagner Wesly Person / Kareem Rush Ricky Davis Kenny Thomas / Chris Mihm Ilgauskas / Diop 2003 Line up: Wagner Rush / Person Tsiki Kenny Thomas / Mihm Diop / Ilgauskas They would still have a shot at have their first rounder for 2003 and Tsiki would be ready to come over. Many people have already said Tsiki may turn out to be the best player in this draft. Krstic should be ready to come over by 2004. This staggers out their guaranteed contracts and gets them a potential superstar each year. 2nd. Trade the #12 pick for a #1 next year. Certainly NY, Denver, Memphis, Pheonix, Miami or someone would want an extra pick in this years deep draft. Use the other picks on Wagner, Butler and Rush and use the 2nd round pick and a Euro that is not ready to come over yet. 2002 line up: Wagner Person / Rush Butler / Davis Thomas / Mihm Ilguaskas / Diop 3rd. Its the deepest draft in years. Chances like this rarely come along so keep all of the picks and shoot for the moon this year. Accept that Cleveland is going to be bad next year regardless of the draft and build for a strong future now. Draft Wagner, Butler, Jefferie and Jeri Welsch with the first round picks and Nenad Krstic with the second round pick. 2002 Line up: Wagner / Welsch Butler / Person Jefferies / Davis Thomas / Mihm Ilgauskas / Diop Future Line up: Wagner / Welsch Butler / Lebron James? Jefferies / Davis Krstic / Thomas Diop / Mihm Cleveland would still be in the Lebron James derby next year. Jeri Welsch has been described as a Euro that plays D and can handle the Rock. Butler is suppose to be the most NBA ready player in the draft. Wagner looks like he will be a point guard in the same mold as Francis, Marbury and Iverson. Jefferies can play d and handle the rock and he has champinship experience as being the go to guy on his team. Does any of those scenarios sound like a potential play off team?
I agree this deal looks more likely for the Cavs, but I think one of the Clippers picks might also have to go to Cleveland. Would I do an Odom straight up for Griffin? HELL NO! But the 8th and 12th pick could possibly allow the Rockets to get Stoudamire and Hilario. The chances of one of those guys becoming a great NBA player is pretty good. As much as I love Eddie, this would be impossible to pass up. But it still doesn't seem right. Collier and Morris are pretty much worthless. So for argument's sake, the trade would essentially be Eddie Griffin for Lamar Odom, Nene Hilario, and Amare Stoudamire. That just seems like we're getting way too much for an unproven player.
I just happen to think Eddie is going to be a stud in this league. I think we would regret trading Eddie more than Washington regrets trading Rasheed. To me Eddie is one of the untouchables. But that is just my oppionion.
I don't know who is in charge of contracts on the Rockets, but he has screwed us. We are overpaying: Norris, Cato, Rice, and Taylor (they are not worth what we are paying). Steve will get the max, and Cat will soon ask for the same. A deal with Odom wouldn't help (financially) unless it unloaded Rice or Taylor. A young athletic SF is needed badly (assuming we draft Ming), Nachbor seems right. He couldn't come right away, which in the mean time we could sort out salary problems, and most likely won't cost us that much. If Rice is doing badass (as rumored to be) I would love to give him another chance, but he is a huge burden on our cap.
The Rockets are already over the cap so the contracts of Norris, Cato, Rice and Taylor are of no consiquence to me. If we are in a position to aquire Odom and we pass because we will have to pay to much (cash) then that is a very poor excuse for not putting the best team on the floor that we can. Personally as a fan I will never except the excuse that it is too expensive to put a winning team on the floor.
NIKE, MManal, ROCKET!!!, DC Kid- I will be very busy until draft day so here is a final comment. I went the extra distance with crash's proposal because unlike many we read, it fits within the CBA and is at least worthy of discussion. Two closing points: 1) I don't know either if the Cavs would want all the rooks. What I do know is that: A) The team is for sale and a low payroll should be a plus. B) A potential buyer should be enticed by having many new picks to build the team the way the want. C) If the current ownership is really enthralled with local HS hero LeBron James, all of those picks coupled with both a poor 2002-2003 record and a low payroll can not hurt. All the picks can't hurt even if they want to be the Nuggets East. 2) Looking at this from the Clipps side, I realize it is a departure from the ultra-cheap methodology of Donald Sterling. No argument there. My one and only comment is that DS is one the verge of winning (in spite of himself) and can put together a good team without Lamar Odom. Without Odom but with a quality PG, the Clipps will be very competitive for the 2002-2003 & 2003-2004. Sterling has until that time to "ride the wave" or he can decide that he doesn't want to spend any more and dismantle the team for picks and/or short contracts. I don't think there would be much disagreement that two summers from now Brand and Miller couldn't be put on the block in some sort of fire sale and still have solid market value. Those with better memories - isn't this somewhat the situation when the Clipps made the playoffs in the early 90's and then traded for Stanley Roberts or something like that?
