That's absurd! Sure, Beasley will be a bust. And I assume you think previous #1 overall picks like Kwame Brown, Michael Olowokandi, Andrew Bogut, Joe Smith, Glenn Robinson, Derrick Coleman and Pervis Ellison were NOT the kind of guys who could turn a franchise around? Oh, wait... poprocks is RIGHT! They WERE busts. In fact, 7 of the last 19 #1 picks were either outright busts or just adequate starters -- that's more than 1 out of every 3 #1 picks -- and certainly not guys who would change the fortunes of a franchise. So let's dump the best center in the league for a nearly 40% chance of getting a bust and a 30-year-old malcontent whose best seasons are behind him. Sounds like a plan. P.S. Joe Barry Carroll, Kent Benson...
Do me a favor and go to nba.com and look into the archives of past NBA players. See Coleman, Derrick. Who, incidentally, Beasley is getting compared to quite often.
i think you need to check some vids of coleman. dude would have been a superstar if he had some type of work ethic. in his first 4 years when he had some type of brain, he avg 19ppg, 10rpg, 3apg. dude is a legend at Syracuse. if beasley is like him + work ethic -> expect 20+, 10+ pretty easily.
Actually, you made my point. That's the exact same knock on Beasley. All the talent is there, the work ethic/desire is not. p.s. I currently attend Syracuse University.
beasley actually has the work ethic. he has said he wants to stay another year in college to work on his game b/c he knows he's not ready yet. that's a sign of a maturing young player to me. plus, look at his body. that alone shows the work ethic he had in high school to make his body NBA-ready at such a young age.
Apparently you and I are reading very different scouting reports. Everything I'm reading is that though his current college coach is singing his praises, his work ethic and general demeanor are very much in question. Supposedly there are stories about his mischievous antics spreading all throughout the League. P.S. I agree with you on Coleman. Personally, I think he'd have been the greatest power forward of all-time if only he ever gave a *****.
plus there's also a guy named derrick rose, who's people are saying is the next jkidd WITH a jumper. and his work ethic is renowned. and rose is so smart that scouts are saying he can already start on most teams. if carl landry is improving at a rate that he should be (the next amare??), a rose-landry combo isn't looking too bad. you ease the transition with marion + tmac + scola but again, i don't think we'll trade yao. it's unrealistic. however, if he's injured for one more season where he has to miss a lot of games, it's time to let him go.
again, beasley is still young. that's why if we do get him, he's not going to be the main guy right away so he won't get the stardom to his head so early. tmac will still be the main guy. landry, marion, scola will be there to guide him also. with a veteran group to guide him, i'm sure he'll understand what he should do if he wants to be the best player he can be. PS - coleman is like a bigger version of charles barkley. dude had the range, body, size, athleticism, strength, skills to dominate.
Pay attention to what I've typed. I think this thread is just as stupid as anyone else but I was just reminding you that Marion is one of the best defenders in the game and by far the most versatile defender. That is all. You guys don't have to stretch the truth about other players just to say how good Yao is. His dominant post offense is key and it is a must to get easy buckets down low. Also, all you guys saying they would like to see Yao leave to another team are a disgrace to Clutchfans and should be banned. This is a rockets forum, we should be discussing what is best for the rockets not one player. Also, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that wade would be better for Yao than tmac. Tmac got teams to the playoffs with much less than they have in Miami. The guy wasn't getting anything done with shaq or Marion. He is overrated. He was bound to get injured the way he plays and if he keeps it up he will shorten his career. You just can't attack the rim not thinking of how to land right and stay healthy.
I don't have any comments on how Beasley or Rose would fit in with this team, because if giving up Yao is what it would take to make that happen, that'll never happen. I was simply commenting on whether or not Beasley is a sure thing. I don't think he is. I hope I'm wrong though, because Derrick Coleman broke my heart and I'd love to see a player of his talent actually achieve his potential. It'd be good for the league.
U don't know if Yao can get better,but I really know Marion will turn weaker.Even yao cann't get better,he won't go down too much,because he never played with speed and spring.Increased with age,the only thing troubled him is manual.And Marion?Look: Year Team MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 05-06 PHX 40.3 0.525 0.331 0.809 3.1 8.8 11.8 1.8 2.0 1.7 1.54 2.80 21.8 06-07 PHX 37.6 0.524 0.317 0.810 2.2 7.7 9.8 1.7 2.0 1.5 1.43 2.70 17.5 07-08 PHX 36.4 0.526 0.347 0.713 1.8 8.0 9.9 2.1 2.0 1.5 1.04 2.50 15.8 07-08 MIA 37.6 0.459 0.258 0.690 3.1 8.1 11.2 2.5 1.9 0.9 2.31 2.10 14.3 U say Yao is almost 30(September 12, 1980 ) ,but Marion is correct 30(May 7, 1978). Increased with age,he will feel tired when he constantly show his cute 3p. There is a better chance of him? U r a big fan of Yao? Maybe U r a big fan of Yao,but U r not a standard fan of Yao.Just like U give urself a title of Dr. Basketball.Actually U don't get Yao's inner thoughts.He is eager for winning a champion for the city picked him.He worked so hard,just wants to get "a better chance"?NO!I can answer u.He loves the city and the team.There is a word in China,"知遇之恩" .It's hard to explain.But the opposite:Bonzi got a perfect statistic in 2006 playoff,then he dropped Sacramento,requested a trade for more money.He played just for money. U r a bigger fan of the Rockets? Ok,tell me,who brings two titles for Houston?Drexler?Horry? Cassell?or Dr. Basketball?God!No big man,no champion!Unless U were MJ.Why New Jersey and Philadeiphia could go to the final?They had Mutombo! Center's are the hardest thing to find, so Suns trade Marion for Shaq,LA get Gasol,Cleveland get Ben,Boston get KG,even Dallas,they trade Nash,but Dampier is still there.Maybe they are all idiots. At last,I don't wanna use more words.YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BASKETBALL!
exactly, we don't know what will happen. yao is a sure thing. like you, i don't think the trade will happen b/c the team we have NOW is a championship contender if everyone is healthy. all i'm saying is if tmac or yao go out with a lengthy injury AGAIN next season, it's time to let them go. i cannot stand watching our franchise being tied to 2 guys who can't stay healthy the entire year. i love tmac and yao, but i want to win. if they can't help us, move on. but i do wish everyone stays healthy next year and win though
Going overboard right there, I love yao but even I must admit that I seriously consider the trade if Miami offers Marion + 08 1st for him. But from the Heat's perspective, there is zero chance they will do this trade. 1st of all didn't they just trade a injured big man with a huge contract for marion? Why would they want Yao then? Secondly if you have been keeping up withe NBA you would have realized that the Heat is in full tank mode inorder to get one of the top 3 picks in this years draft. So obviously they are very high on this year's top prospects (Beasly, Rose, Gordan, Mayo, ect). So why would they trade it along with a allstar caliber player for a player who the rest of the league underrates, and considered injury prone.
b4 entitle urself as a "Dr", plz learn to spell others' name correctly trade Yoa so: Rocket gets Yao + Tmac + Marion + 1st pick Miami gets Yoa + Wade goodjob Doc.
You were doing great until that Mutombo stuff, Iverson and Kidd caried those teams. We do need Yao though. And please, for the love of god, please, everyone who loves yao can please stop with the whole innocent act. Bonzi was stupid for holding out but that doesn't mean most nba players are selfish and yao doesn't care about money. Yao cares about money, Yi cares about money, tmac cares, its normal. Can we get through a single discussion involving Yao without someone gushing over how he is determined, dedicated, unselfish, yada yada yada... You can't measure it, its not statistical, and its only up to interpretation.
