This is why I applaud not matching Posey's offer. We want to be contenders in 3 years, not this year. If we can sign quality role players, and let the nucleus of Yao and Francis develop, then we can realistically sign another star or super high quality role players in two years.

I don't know when all the bunk salaries will be off our books, but I'm thinking 2 years before making a big splash. One that will put us over the threshold to contend for the title.

So this year with a payroll reportedly in Luxury tax territory, we must wait and contend in two years. The Suns sure had that attitude when they almost beat the Spurs last year. So did NJ the year they got Kidd and went to the finals. The Rox are in a position where everybody is watching and waiting. Many ask themselves, is this the year that this team makes some noise. There is no cap to what this team can do. A rock solid chemistry on this team could make it a big contender this year. Have you seen a quote from any rocket official that say they are looking to contend down the road? I have not. CD is on record last year saying the team is set and from here on it would be just minor changes. This year he say he just wants to add some vets. That is the type of thing you do went you intend to contend.

    DearRock,

If I had my druthers I would LOVE for Mobley or Griffin to turn into the 3rd star on this team. Mobley's statistics look to be the level of a 3rd star but the problem is, is that he is too inconsistant. Consistancy is what makes star players. Griffin still has room for lots of improvement. We can talk more about Griffin when he is shooting in the high 40 percent range, pulling down double digit rebounds every night and scoring in the mid teens.

As for the other players you mentioned. I am not saying Sprewell is a star player but perhaps the Sprewell/Wally combo makes up for lack of a 3rd star type player on that team. Perhaps I am reaching a bit there. It is debatable.

As for Amare, his potential is unlimited and he WILL turn into a star type player. I don't have ANY doubts about that. Griffin? Still question marks there.

I would trade Mobley for Finley (Finley is a better defender and more consistant offensively). I would trade Griffin for Amare (for obvious reasons). I would THINK about the Mobley for Sprewell deal but not sure I would make that move. Sprewell is the better defender but perhaps is losing it a bit. I think Mobley is a better offensive player. So it is pretty much a wash.

Like I said, I would LOVE for Mobley/Griffin to improve and be that 3rd guy. I am not saying it won't happen, but I am skeptical that it will.
