I mean I know I am a simple fan and all but Snipe I called for that kind of rotation way back in the preseason. I am convinced if Rudy had done that we would have had a lot less injuries, more wins and OT would have come out earlier. Many times last night Willis beat his man down the floor. I see no reason why we do not simply run run run. That is when we controlled the game last night. We have definitely turned the corner and the streak will end soon. I also had, some time earlier, to caution Tmo about having a wrong impression of OT. Probably one of his best attributes is his hunger. That has hurt him a little because he want to do so well, he is almost not waiting for the game to come to him. I have seen him a little out of control at times. But talent is talent and he will adjust. Of course Mobes should know now that OT is his equal, at least, and must refrain from waving OT off.
I guess many of the fans starting to feel comfortable of Rudy's small ball style. I HATE TO SEE THIS! I can't remember a small team wins the NBA title in the past 15+ years. All the championship teams for the past 15 years have 7 footers as their center and has big back court players. The Lakers (Shaq/Koby/Haper), Spurs (Twin Towers/Mario), Bulls (Loney/Rodman/Jodon/Haper), and the Rockets (Dream, Mario). All of these teams play big and play great defense during their chimpionship years. I feel that Rudy's style has become more and more rely on shooting. He love shooters. His big men don't have to rebound, don't have to play D, but must be able to shoot! I still dreaming Rudy/CD will bring us an all star big man to team up w/ Steve. We also have the big 2 guard who can score and play great defense in Torres. Let's just trade Mobley for a Star big man and we'd be a serious contender. The Nuggets is having a hard time keeping their stars happy, so I think maybe we can steal their front court players. how about we send Mobley, Taylor, Kenny, Cato, and Toronto's 2nd rounder to Denver for McDyess and LaFrentz? Denver asked Mobley in the Van Exel rumor so I assume they want the Cat. Taylor and K.T. give them two solid PFs to replace McDyess. LaFrentz will become a FA this summer and he's leaving Denver anyway, so Cato could be a good pickup for them. and they still have a backcourt of Van Exel/Mobley to keep them competitive while rebuilding. we'll get a top lottory pick this summer, I say use it to get a small forward (Dunleavy/Grizzard), and then use the Toronto's 1st rd. pick to get a back up swing man (Cooke, Yarbrough) our lineup for next season could be like this: LaFrentz, Willis, Collier McDyess, Griffin, Morris Dunleavy, Williams, Rice Torres, Cooke Francis, Norris, Brown very similary to the Kings' lineup
I wouldn't mind seeing Torres starting at SF. He's a bit undersized, but there's not really too many SFs that I see just eating him up. Last year, I wasn't crazy about Shandon at SF because of his size. But w/Torres he'll give us more offense w/his outside shot and drives, something Shandon didn't do consistently. Since Torres at least gives us offense, I don't mind the tradeoff. Besides, we didn't do too bad w/Shandon at the sf.Can't wait to see our complete team w/Taylor next year. We'll be alright.
In this mornings paper Rudy said Oscar Torres is our starting SF right now and he'll see how it goes. Torres is fun to watch because hes in constant motion out there. Man you have to love that one play were he comes from underneath off a middle pick to recieve the ball mid-high for a quick shot. It kinda reminds me of Reggie Millers forte. Props to Rudy for designing that one. It's a gorgeous play.
Not to burst anyone's bubble, because Torres is the answer at SF that we need...but did you see how Jalen Rose was simply schooling Torres in the 1st Quarter. Torres could not contain Rose in the least. Torres' defense is aggressive (risk taking), but it is getting overrated on the bbs, imo. Stars are driving on him.
Crispee, Yes he did get lit up early, but he will learn. I thought he was tenative at the outset of the game and settled down in the 2nd quarter. By the way Rose only scored 6 more points after the 1st quarter. DaDakota
Torres doesn't have great lateral/side to side movement. But neither did Clyde but he was a great back-peddling defender. If you watch Torres game you'll see he's a North to South type player like Clyde. For Torres it's going to be tougher to defend guys like Rose who love to juke you out of your shoes. Like even he said, he needs to get smarter.
DaDakota. I'm pretty sure they put Mobley on Rose in the 4th and OT. Notice that is when Reggie started lighting it up. Not to say any human can stop Reggie from nailing 28 footers and all, but... btw: How about that Mobley block of Tinsley on the 3 on 2 fastbreak. How many times do you see a great PG get blocked by a releaser camping under the basket when he has the numbers. That takes great timing. Had Torres got that block...A Star Would be Born!
I agree. Oscar is going to be a star. I don't get why the Rockets didn't pick him up a coupke of years ago.
MoandFro, Maybe they didn't sign him so that he could get some playing time and develop his game. EUREKA, that is what EG needs...send him to our development squad in Venezuela. DD
If Oscar can keep up this kinda pace for the majority of the season what are his chance for Rookie of the Year. Condsidering the other that are out there now
I think he'd be second team ALL ROOKIE, because Jason Richardson is the only other SG with skills? Am I missing someone? Man, with Mooch and Torres backing up Steve and Cuttino, we can keep our guards from injury, and have quality minutes for our backups. If we settle on a 9 man rotation, it should look like this: Francis/Mooch Cat/Torres Rice/Griffin/Mo-T(yes, Mo-T) Mo-T/Willis/Griffin Cato/Willis/Griffin Trade KT and Langhi for a high pick? Collier and T-Mo play garbage time, and slowly earn their minutes.
Crispee mentioned in another thread about Oscar's "low post" skills. Anyone care to elaborate on that? Sounds really intriguing. Crispee, anyone and everyone, do you really see Oscar as the answer at the 3? Is he like Shandn with 'O'?
Just saw this on NBA.com. More props for Torres.... http://www.starnews.com/article.php?TXTFF098D3D.html
