Yeah, I actually kinda like the Spurs ... mostly 'cause I spent my college years in San Anton. That said, it's much more fun when we come together and rip on a team that's NOT the Rockets, so I like to chime in. I like DRob for his character and his unmanly chisled body. Aside from the '98 season, he's held up strong throughout his entire career. But that said, he's about 2 pump fakes and a shake behind Dream. No offense, Admiral.
In this thread, and the Tim Duncan thread in 'NBA Dish', there have been so many excuses for David Robinson. First, one Spurs fan calls Robinson the greatest big-man defender ever, and then another guys sys that Dream only put up 35+ a game in the playoffs against David because the Spurs didn't double. A) Watch the games, the Spurs did double. B)If David Robinson is the greatest defender ever, he shouldn't need a double...ever, on anyone. Dream is better. You can't argue it. Stats, head-to-head, and opinions of their peers all say so. Robinson is on a Patrick Ewing level. The Admiral is better than Ewing, but they are both on the third tier of centers. I think you have to put Kareem, Wilt, Russell on the top tier. I think Moses Malone, Dream and Shaq are all on the elevator between the 1st and 2nd tier.
being 1/2 mexican, i feel i can say this quite comfortably... a joke us spurs* haters have around here is that the mexicans in san antonio didn't know whether to put the "Go" before or after "spurs*", so they just stuck 'em in both places. .....made sense to me.
Hardly . . . I lived in SA for 3 years and I can't possibly tell you how many times I've had this damned discussion . . . flat out, there is no question AT ALL that Hakeem was better than Robinson. There is NO WAY that you can possibly argue that Robinson was even as good, much less better. In 95, David Robinson won the MVP -- he had his VERY BEST season and Dream just flat out annihlated him. Dream killed Robinson when he was at his VERY BEST. There is no way it's even possible to argue that DRob was better. It's like arguing that an Accord is a better sports car than a Ferrari. It's just not possible . . . Sorry, I just get so frustrated with this debate it drives me crazy!!
Now, I hate the Spurs as much as the next guy, but would any of you put an asterick by our name had we somehow won the championship in 1999? Absolutely not. So quit saying the Spurs should have one.
Obviously, they don't remember this line from the commentators: "David Robinson is saying, what must I do?" This is during Hakeem's demolition of David Robinson.

LOL, I can't believe this discussion is being made. D-Rob in the same class as Hakeem? Give me a break. David Robinson never won a championship as THE MAN. Hakeem did. That's the bottom line. D-ROb could not and did not carry his team to a title. Hakeem did. Hakeem is the all tiem steals leader for PF's and C's I believe. He's also the blocks leader. Unbelievable. D-Rob? LOL.

Did this guy just say DRob is better than Russell, Dream and Wilt? I am not suffering from homerism when I say all those players are better than DRob am I? Russell and Wilt may be before my time but I did watch many tapes and they are amazing. I'll leave it to y'all to argue about Dream.
