    of course the answer is two... i just wanted to write an utterly useless scenario in which the chicken dealer breaks even... you all passed my test!

    The guy buys a chicken for $8 and sells it for $9. He has now made $1. ($1 up if yer counting)

    Guy buys chicken back for $10 that he just sold for $9. He just lost $1 which puts him at even.

    He then sells it for $11. Which puts him at $1 up. Seems like the guy made a $1 to me.

    I guess you could also say he made $2 and lost $1 but that would be a waste of breath, much like this thread is a waste of my time.

    Thats what I thought too, but I guess you have to look at it as 2 separate transactions.

    Nope, if he made $1 and spent $10 he is -$9, not even.

    Now he sells it for $11. $11-$9 = $2.
    If he is even and sells it for $11, how do you have him at +$1. That would be +$11 according to your previous statements.
