Great post, lots of positivity, I echo your thoughts, this is proly the most memorable season since our championship run in 1995.
I'm glad to see that others feel the same as I do about this season. I am incredibly nervous about the upcoming Playoffs, but I also have a satiated c'est la vie attitude about them. I do think we will get the #5 seed, have home court over the Jazz, and give them one hell of a run in the first round. I like our chances in that series, and I think we have a half-decent shot to make a run at the WCF. However, if we do fall in the first round, I will still remember this season fondly and not view it as a disappointment. I was a season ticket holder in 1997 and will always remember game 4 against Utah in the WCF. Shouts of "Eddie! Eddie!" were raining down while complete strangers were hugging me. Yet this season is more memorable to me than 1996-1997. Only the banner years stand on an even pedestal. I was a bit too young to appreciate the runs in the 1980's. This team is stacked with the sort of players you remember years later. We all remember 1994 & 1995 with Dream, Drexler, Elie, Horry, Cassell, Bullard, Mad Max, Kenny, Chucky Brown, OT, Carl Hererra, Brooks, Jones, and Chilly Pete. Brent Price, Sedale Threatt, Matt Maloney, Pig Miller, and Kevin Willis don't quite stand the test of time. I do think Shane, Landry, Scola, Deke, Yao, Tracy, and Rafer are those kind of memorable players. That's not even counting sentimental favorites like Luther, Chuck, Harris, Brooks, and Novak. The 22 game winning streak certainly is a vivid highlight, but there's just a fun sentimentality about watching this team, the chemistry they have developed, and them banding together to prove everyone wrong. I hope fans realize how rare this is and appreciate this moment while it's happening. Seasons like this don't come along too often.
I could not possibly add anything to that. So I jsut want to post to let it be known that your effort has been appreciated and agreed upon. I only have one misgiving (sort of)...it would be nice to honestly say that it doesnt even matter if we got out of the first round, but Im sick and tired of hearing the pundits blame the failure to acheive second round on Mcgrady. If the team again fails to get past the first, it wont be remembered and accounted for that we were missing a major piece of our team and by all rights should have never been in the playoffs to begin with, just like it is never remembered that there wasnt anybody on the Magic teams that were really worth anything...all that we will hear about for the next year is about how Mcgrady once again couldnt lead his team to the second round. There is only so much one can do as an individual player, it takes a good team to get anywhere in today's NBA. It took a huge amount of teamwork to get this far and it will take a huge amount of teamwork to get out of the first round.
I agree that seeing McGrady get out of the first round and remove that monkey from his back would put the perfect bow on this season. If they fall, a lot of pundits will bash TMac and belittle the Rockets, but to hell with them and their opinions. I hope Rocket fans at least will remember this season with the proper perspective. Being a fan means sometimes your team doesn't win. Fans know when they have a good team that can't get over the hump but put their hearts and souls into giving it their best shot. That is often a lot sweeter in the long run than a bland team that wins a round or two in the Playoffs.
Ditto. Great thread. Agree here too. I could handle getting knocked out of the first round. As a long time fan, it's a known experience . But for Tracy's sake, dang, he needs a second round more than us.
I was at that game also. What a huge high that was. I totally agree with these two post and quoted them in order to emphasize their thoughts. Well said and thanks.
If we get to the second round, then we know the bball gods have read your post. You a writer? Cause you write better than Mr. Fran Blinesberry and the Fox news Charlie Rosen. You should replace them, they suck.
Thanks! I am a writer. "Scribo Ergo Sum" is Latin for "I write therefore I am" and is the name of the publishing company that I started up to print my first novel, "The Ghost Hunters". I'm hard at work (although not as much as I'd like with this playoff race) on a novel called "The Sun and the Swan", which is the first book a mutli-novel series.
Thats very cool! I will definitely check out your book. Self publishing is a scary thought to me but it looks like you did pretty well with it - only one copy left! You will have to keep us in the know when you publish your new one.
I challenge you to post a picture of your hair. Otherwise, we'll think that you got HIV. Spoiler Hair Is Vanishing
a little offtopic, but how are you going about publishing? I used to read Piers Anthony's blog, where he talks at length about the crappy system that is organized mainstream publishing, and in answer to that he helped found a internet company to help up and coming writers get published. I dont recall the name right off, but it is easy to find if you arent already aware of it.
I am female, so I do not have that particular problem. My husband, on the other hand..... Maybe that is the problem, I think bald men are hot!!
This season gave me smiles and sad, angry faces but everything went alright. Props to every1, I <3 my Rockets...
