This is true. The reason is once A-Rod opts out, they lose $20+ million they were going to get from the Rangers toward his contract.
I agree. A-Rod is a great baseball player, but he is no Jordan and baseball is even more of a team sport than basektball. Not to mention that Jordan's influence was worldwide and he has accomplished so much in playoffs and won 6 titles. A-Rod has none of those. Why should he be paid as much as MJ?
I hate his ass, but would love to see him on the Blue Jays back at shortstop. This will never happen, though.
Boras makes a lot of good points. A-Rod brings in viewers by a huge margin from what he is able to do. The Yankees got a huge ratings boost when he joined the team. When He starts breaking all the records, it will mean a lot of good PR for the team too. Boras is a really really clever guy. If the yankees really do give up on signing A-Rod, their GM should be fired. Out of all the guys on that team that are overpayed, A-Rod might be the one that is almost worth it. He has MVP numbers year after year. His playoff numbers have been bad but he helps put the team in the Playoffs, he keeps them competitive. If the Yanks lose A-rod, they aren't a playoff team.
A-rod deserves every bit of money he is making, and yes a team will and should pay him more. By the end of his career, A-rod is going to own just about every single batting record (including HR record) in MLB. Ratings go up when he plays, the team makes more money, everyone will tune in 6-10 years from now to watch him break the records. The guy is the best player in baseball.
arod is the best individual player in baseball but considering he's not only never won anything, but his former teams have generally done better when he's left, i don't know if he's worth absolutely anything. unlike basketball where one person(ie jordan) can get paid 30 million and then put his team on his back, one superstar in baseball can't do anywhere near the same thing.
i would love to have a-rod. the astros have never had an offensively productive shortstop. too bad we have no chance at getting him.
They said no one player was worth a million dollars. Nolan showed Robin Ventura and everyone else what the Ryan Express is all about.
30 mil for most teams represent 30% of their payroll. I am not sure what the rangers payroll was but I am guessing ryan didn't make up 30% of it.
i doubt the sox will try to sign him, after all, they got a smart management. its going to be funny seeing a dumb team signing him.
For most teams, 30 mil is well over 30% of their payroll, I think 7 teams have 9 digit payrolls. Hell, the D-Rays total payroll is only 24 million dollars. I'm pissed, because they offered him an extension of 30 million per for five years and he turned it down. If they had kept Torre, there wouldn't be so much uncertainty around Posada, Rivera, and Pettite and he might have taken it. Steinbrenner really screwed this offseason up, and he managed to do it before the playoffs even ended.
At what point are teams going to put their foot down and say f-off to paying someone $30 mil a year?? I know.... dumb question. F A-Rod F Scott Borass
he didn't just turn it down, he never even went to the negotiating table with them, did not even want to talk to them. He was going to opt out no matter what. typical AFraud stuff to try to use Mo, Jorgie and Andy to try to hide it.
Did you guys see Peter Gammons last night? He called PayRod and Bora$ out for making the announcement as the WS is going on.
