and being able to retire and say that he has more rings than 4 of the '50 greatest players' combined (robinson, malone, stockton, barkley) feels pretty good...especially when you contribute in those championship seasons.

Horry's wife saw his happiness in LA and gave him the okay to stay in LA. Yes, the money is better in LA, but I think being a contributor on a winning basketball team had much more to do with it. If his wife said she needed him at home, Horry would probably sign for less with the Rockets.

I love Horry, but if we never traded him for Barkley, we never would have won those champ...I mean we would have never gone to the fin...I mean we would have lost to Utah in the conf...I mean we would not have finally been able to beat the Sonics in the playoffs...that's what I meant.

Remember when the Bulls offered Pippen for Horry (plus fillers)? And how we didn't wanna do that cuz we needed Horry? Two rings later, that was a smart move not to pull a trade. And now I bet Phil wouldn't trade Richmond for Pippen. hahahaha :D

If Robert Horry is so capable of making those shots, and playing tough defense on superstars, why doesn't he do that all the time???

Horry takes off the season, occassionally playing hard.

Don't you guys remember when Horry would slack off 75% of the time in Houston?

Horry is a gamer. A type of guy that looks just crappy during practice but somehow seems to turn it when it counts. He is the perfect fit for the Lakers and our Championship teams because they didn't need him to get to the playoffs. However, he is not a good fit for us now.

The Lakers will keep him until Shaq retires which means Horry will have enough rings to fill both hands. He should one hand filled by the June.

you guys should check out the L.A. Lakers BBS
    http://www.lakersground.net/~board/viewforum.php?forum=1

they're all going crazy about bob!

there is even 1 thread titled "HORRY = HALL OF FAMER... REVISITED"

now i can understand the "horry = hall of famer" part, because they're fans probably went nuts after he hit that clutch 3-pointer... hell people on this very same BBS come up with crazy Rockets trade proposals whenever guys around the league have HUGE games...

the part that strikes me as hilarious is the part that says "revisited"... that means that they have actually had bobby horry hall of fame discussions in the past!!!! now i'm as big a horry fan as there is, but ha ha ha ha!

Horry plays good d when he has a good shot blocker behind him. When he was in phoenix he sucked and without the two most dominant big men of their time he would suck. He's a good role player just like everyone else on the laskers team not named shaq or kobe. Put him on this team and people would be trying to get him the hell out of town especially at the 3. I guess people don't remember how elliot used to be at the rim every play against Horry. Beyond all that, he is a good role player and hits clutch shots.

Horry could have been the next Pippen (don't laugh, he was "pretty good" for a long time). No work ethic... huge waste of talent. 6'10 guys who can play D, play 2 positions, shoot 3's, and take the ball to the hoops should do more than he has.

Still, he's a good contributor at times. Be nice to have him back... but he really couldn't start for us unless he regains enough lateral quickness to play the 3, and is too expensive to play back-up.

Look again at the writeup on that game back in 1996:

    <A HREF="http://www.dfw.net/~patricia/nba-daily/older/95-96/scores5-12.txt">Horry's clutch performance</A>

    <i>
Sea 114, Hou 107 OT - at Hou
Detlef Schrempf (Sea) had 18 points and 6 rebounds.
Shawn Kemp (Sea) had 32 points including 13-19 FG, 15 rebounds, and 3
    blocks.
Hersey Hawkins (Sea) had 17 points and 5 assists.
Gary Payton (Sea) had 24 points including 5-10 FT, 11 assists, and 3
    steals.
Robert Horry (Hou) had 20 points including 5-11 3-pointers, 12 rebounds,
    and 3 steals.
Hakeem Olajuwon (Hou) had 26 points and 6 rebounds in 50 minutes.
Clyde Drexler (Hou) had 15 points including 4-14 FG, 15 rebounds, 6
    assists, and 5 turnovers.
Sam Cassell (Hou) had 15 points including 5-16 FG and 4-10 3-pointers and
    6 assists.
Sea shot 48.3% (42-87) FG and Hou shot 38% (35-92) FG.
    Seattle sweeps the series 4-0.
    </i>

If Horry was that tough a defender, why did Kemp go off for 32 points on 13-19 shooting?

Horry was overmatched by Kemp back in 1996.

If you think that's funny, imagine the time when people (e.g., Dave Odom) said Terence Morris was going to be BETTER than Pippen.

Not when he played Detlef Schempf in 1996 he sure didn't. That is when I realized the guy was a good role player but nothing special (trable commodity).

Horry has excelled in two situations, 1 was playing with Hakeem, the other is playing with Shaq. When he played in a guard oriented offense, even with fine guards (Kidd, KJ, Cassell, maybe others), for whatever reason his limitations were exposed and his strengths not utlized. He has showed himself to be very valuable in the right situation, but our team now is no where near the right situation for him.

I disagree with your crack on Morris, because he hasn't had a decent shot and seems to lack confidence. Just give him playing time and watch he (Morris) will flourish. I really like his talent, and I have to admit that for a small forward he rebounds like a mad man when given playing time.
