blogs and the (slow) move to the internet are the innovation, msn. let's remember: these guys are WRITERS. the internet has plenty of 'em - you should check some of them out. no - are you kidding? cush, my man - cush. there're still deadlines but technology have made them 1,000% more manageable. a large chunk of columns can now be written and submitted (instantly) from home (or the stadium, or from a vacation spot) - you don't even have to come into an office or attend a practice any more, freeing up even more time. peter king constantly relates how much he texts with players - it's a whole new landscape. and there's no increased writing load; they write the same amount for the paper as they ever did - most of the blogs are extended thoughts on columns. with the advances in technology, columnists (not reporters, mind you) probably have more free time today (to dedicate to blogs and other online pursuits) than ever before. look at justice - he does a weekly (previously *daily*) radio show (and appears more often than that), has time to appear on ESPN each and every time they come calling.... there was daily content; even before the team existed, we were providing daily, weekly and monthly content (as the information dicated). obviously, football - like every sport - has an offseason (though it's growing shorter and shorter), but when there was news, we covered and/or reacted to it. point is: we provided quite a bit of content on the backend of completely unrelated, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week jobs. most of justice's blogs are expanded thoughts on his columns. well, technically, you don't - not with the amount of information available to you with the snap of your fingers.
JjDO posted on his blog something recently about being at a rocket game during an astro game... it's possible mctaggert was covering that night but i'd be shocked if they attended every game - The Cat could probably shed some much brighter light on that. i would wager the likelihood they all travel with the team is even less. but that's likely a budget issue.
The whole Internet is writing! Even the videos and audio are surrounded with... writing! I was speaking of the paper in general, not the individual writers. Oh, I have. But I specifically said, if the Chronicle had any... OK, I can't argue with this. I'm not willing to call these guys lazy, however--except those that blatantly exhibit it in all of our faces: like Dick Justice.
the college national championship is a classic example every year of an over hyped, over written, over analyzed story.
Dick has yet another commentary on the firings of the strength guys. Seems he is taking this a bit personal. http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/archives/2009/01/reaction_to_the.html
