They don't understand this concept because they think charity always comes from other peoples money through wealth redistribution by taxation. I'd be willing to bet a majority of Republicans give more of their OWN money to charity then most Democrats.
Really? This is pissing contest material here. Bill Gates seems pretty liberal, he has given more than 10 billion over the years... Anyone even close to that? I think not. Heck, his donation is so high, that if conservatives did give more than liberals (without Gates' donations per capita) Gates' would push the libs well passed the conservative numbers. But that has no data behind it so it's kinda meaningless. I just think the problem here is people who don't have information, facts, figures and such (on both sides) make anecdotal references and comments. Health care fails because I don't get sick, or health care is great because I've been to the ER 20 times in the passed year, blah blah blah. It's all mindless conjecture. Without data, we all are playing a game of whose Dad is stronger, or smarter, or taller or whatever, that same kind of game we all played in 2nd grade. If you wanna make a point that the dems don't give as much as they say they do, back it up. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying it's worthless conjecture (by both of us) at this point.
