So is it true that the Afghans will kill you for abandoning Islam? What other nation's laws allow this kind of "judgement?"

Afghanistan practices Wahhabist Islam, if I am not mistaken, so it would probably lean towards Saudi-style Islam.

which quran are you readin, in the sense who translated it, and by whom was it published. I find it best to read on with details at the bottom of the page also known as "tafseer" because other than the translation, it also contains a background, and an in depth explanation of each verse or a group of verses.

    hmmm..i'll have to check.

the pastor at my old church did a sermon series on comparative religion. he went around and met with people from all different faiths, and i tagged along. one friday we went to a mosque for friday prayers and spoke with the (insert Muslim term for priest/pastor/minister here). he was very kind and handed me a bunch of materials on Islam and a copy of the Koran. i'm not exactly sure whose translation it is, but i do find the notes to be helpful.

    Some allie, huh?

The problem that is being underplayed here is that these are not lunatic fringe groups that are "misapplying" tenets of the faith, these are nations with laws that are intolerant of other faiths.

Hey, I don't identify with The Inquisitors (except the ones portrayed by Monty Python, of course) and we are both Christians... :D

Shall we start criticizing "Sharians" instead? We can't just pretend that this problem doesn't have some root in the faith because the faith is subject to interpretation.

this may come off as a joke, but it really isnt.

this is why countries like afghanistan and saudi arabia arent spring break destinations or great vacation spots.

how are you going to get foreign travelers to your country when you have stupid regilious rules?

this is the salem witch trials in 2006.

i honestly dont think saudi or afghanistan much want to be spring break locations. plus, the heat and the sand dont go too good with spring breaks in genereal.

girls gone wild, desert style. nah, not the same ring to it.

that's what i'm finding most problematic about this. to what extent are we supporting this government that we helped create? this government that is deciding whether or not killing someone for switching faiths is ok or not.

Well, if you're into historical and archaeological sites, then they might interest you.

Girls flashin' their stuff / prostitutes on the cheap? Better book a flight to Cancun or some other destination.

Our first stop is in bogota
    To check columbian fields
The natives smile and pass along
    A sample of their yield
    Sweet jamaican pipe dreams
    Golden acapulco nights
    Then morocco, and the east,
    Fly by morning light

We’re on the train to bangkok
    Aboard the thailand express
We’ll hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best

    Wreathed in smoke in lebanon
    We burn the midnight oil
    The fragrance of afghanistan
Rewards a long day’s toil pulling into katmandu
    Smoke rings fill the air
    Perfumed by a nepal night
    The express gets you there

saudi's second biggest source of revenue is tourism. but its the religious kind of muslims going to mecca and medina etc. i believe its around 6-10 bil a year. and given that its a freaking desert i doubt many of us would be going over there to chill in spring break.
