How many teeth did you knock out getting that foot in your mouth? Hope you weren't wearing shoes-- unless they were Nikes (because I own stock in that company....and they operate sweatshops... or at least they used to ) Where do you get your broadswords?
where exactly in the bible does it say the anti-christ is going to be muslim? iirc muslims didn't even exist until 6th century AD, smells like a republican scaremongering campaign rather than a sincere christian notice.
anti-christ is only mentioned in two books of the bible- 1John, and 2John has nothing to do with being muslim the principle explained in those books is that anti-christ is a false prophet, a deceiver- in other words a supposed christian leading others astray the word translated means- opposing-christ so in my opinion it would mean someone who supposedly represents christ but is false, in opposition especially a leader, as it mentions a false prophet, a true prophet in the time of the New Testament had authority amongst the christians
I don't understand why people freak out over revelations anyway.....if you believe in the Bible.....the rapture is going to happen regardless. It's not like some crummy email or the outcome of a presidential election is going to stop it from happening. besides, Bud Selig is the real anti-christ.
We are a nation with freedom of religion. In fact, it was one of the driving forces of our revolution and the subsequent flood of immigrants. People coming to our shores to practice whatever their religion was, religion that often brought persecution in their home country. So no, we are not a Christian nation. We are a nation where Christians of all denominations, and those of other faiths, can practice those faiths as they wish, as well as a nation where you can have no belief in religion and remain free to believe that way.
it was a rhetorical question designed to mock the ridiculousness of the email, not an actual question -_-;; one of the things i really, really cannot stand about the modern day republicans is how they twist religion and religiosity by using catchphrases to invoke fear and consternation in their constituents. And the big-name pastors who support that agenda are a disgrace.
I know some of the so called big-named pastors or used to, and those I know may not be big anymore, but they are directly in line with those you speak of... some of these pastors that I have been around are good men who have been trained with a view of the bible that leads them in logical steps to some wrong conclusion (IMHO) but others that would seriously call the President 'the AntiChrist' are off base and for some reason probably blinded by their own pride. We all have a pride that is self serving and causes us to think higher of ourselves than we should. Pride is something every person struggles with, in the bible Jesus calls us to humble ourselves, even doing this daily in order to deal a death blow to our pride. Pride makes us become selfish, excusing our own faults and it causes us to be angry at times, argumentive and unforgiving.
This is the meaning of the word when people refer to the antipopes who moved the Catholic church to Avignon in the 14th Century. The illegitimate popes who clamed they were the real pope are antipopes. They aren't some kind of papal equivalent for the Satanic church. This would seem to jive with your interpretation. While we are on the subject of biblical bad guys, I found it interesting that there is a very real posibility that Satan, Lucifer, and Baalzabub are intended to actually refer to three different demonic entities, not different names for the same being.
Interesting, I have not looked in to that except to study the translations of the names. If you have some reference on that pass it on. thanks
Good points and I think the same would go for any incoming presidential administration. A lot of what you are saying though in your post points to to what makes Obama very appealing but also what has been his greatest weakness which is his lack of experience on the national stage. You say that Obama hasn't taken anything from us or only that he favors his own. I'm not sure what you consider taking from us or favoring his own but what I'm guessing is in terms of that he hasn't put forward any tax increases or divisive legislation. While its true he hasn't as a first term US Senator whith half of the time his party in the minority he really hasn't had much opportunity to put forward a lot of legislation. Obama's legislative record has been decent for a first term senator but he still is a first term Senator and doesn't have much of a legislative record to consider. This is a weakness for obvious reasons but its also been appealing as it has allowed supporters to project many things, sometimes contradictory, onto Obama. I totally agree that Obama deserves his chance, especially since I voted for him, and we shouldn't be tearing him down before we've seen how he does in office but personally I'm still skeptical about how great an Obama Admin. will be and as I said during the primaries. He might be another Lincoln or he might be another Carter. I understand you're not trying to compare or equate Obama with God but it does sound like you are trying to apply a similar standard to both. What it sounds like you are asking for is for faith. Faith in the incoming Admin. and faith in God. While yes I can see how we need faith in all things whether its in Obama or Rafer Alston, the standards of that faith, how it is judged and most importantly what we do when we might find that faith misplaced is completely different and I don't think it works just saying we substitute the words. Sort of like saying that to make great R & B we just substitute "Baby" for "Jesus" in gospel tunes.
rhester... regarding your original post (1) give him a chance? Well, yeah - you're right. we don't know what he can do until we give him a chance. The same can be said of John McCain, John Doe or anybody else. (2) "President Obama himself has taken nothing from us and I think we should move past the obvious wrong doings of others and give President Obama the opportunity..." Well, how do you know he's taken nothing from us? Have you carefully watched what he voted for and against as senator? Have you done the same for McCain? And, once again, you're just repeating the "give him the opportunity" thing. See (1) above. (3) "he has promised to be for everyone regardless of..." So what? All politicians say this. Bush said the same thing in his 2004 acceptance speech: "With that trust comes the duty to serve ALL Americans"... "...today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust." (link go to 1:13 and 7:39) So, although there are valid reasons for supporting Obama, you failed to provide one.
