The only argument Euros have that is more hilarious to me than the "soccer players are just as good athletes as football players" is the "rugby is a tougher sport because they don't wear pads".

That's because if people didn't wear pads in football, there would be multilple fatalities per game.

    Name a rugby player that is 6'5 256 and runs a 4.4 40.

Well, not to bring the thread down, but there are many obvious things with which you can fill that blank, sadly. :(

    Manny,
As for the world population, I assume it is taking the death rate into account. On average, we're getting new humans faster than we're getting rid of old ones. I don't think that site reflects an actual, birth by death update of the pop. It's just ticking off an average. Alarming, no?

But we shouldn't worry. God will take of us, and God did not put brains in our heads so that we would use them and quit overpopulating the entire planet. I'm not sure why he put brains in our heads, but it's not to think about the big picture. (puts hands over ears). La la la la la la la!

    Jonah Lomu

This guy would be close on pace too:

    Ben Cohen

I'm sure that there are plenty of Rugby League fans who could cite several players.

I would never deride American football players for wearing protective clothing. I find it interesting that someone from the US, who clearly has no idea about the physical stature and athletic performance of rugby players (and football players too, I would guess) feels able to make sweeping statements about them, and how they compare to US sportsmen.

As someone who gets to see American football, "soccer", baseball, and basketball on a fairly regular basis, I think that I'm better placed to make an assessment about the relative merits of the participants.

I also hope I don't sound quite so dismissive of other people's opinions, particularly in areas about which I am less than completely knowledgable.

Damn, I can't believe it myself, but props to Deportivo and Monaco.

As for Chelsea, I kinda expected it. They had beaten Arsenal in 15 games, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Arsenal are not that much better than Chelsea anyway.

It's a very dissapointing Champions League this year, the teams:

    Chelsea
    Monaco
    Porto
    Deportivo

The UEFA cup is looking better than that right now.

As for soccer, you can't really argue against it. It has the largest fan base in the entire world as well as the #1 sporting event.

Life goes on everywhere in the World when the NBA Finals or NCAA Championship games are played, but when the World Cup starts, you just know it (unless you're in the states). Everything is quiet, no one in the streets, bars/coffee shops booming with business. It's incredible really.

However, if you were a germany supporter, I'd understand why you'd be bored (that's for you SJC ;) ).
